Icons representing a four-step workflow: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement

About the Course:

This Aircraft Radio Communication & Audio Control Systems microcredential introduces Aircraft Electronics Technicians to the basic functions and controls of aircraft radio communication and audio control systems. Learners will explore Radio Tuning Panels (RTPs), microphone selectors, receiver volume controls, and other audio control functions used to manage communication and audio sources in the cockpit.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will identify the upper-left, upper-right, and lower Radio Tuning Panels and practice selecting radios, adjusting standby frequencies, and transferring frequencies between active and standby displays. They will also explore how multiple tuning panels can control the same radio and how frequency changes are reflected across connected panels.

The course further introduces the Audio Control Panel, including microphone selection, receiver volume adjustment, flight and service interphone functions, Passenger Address, navigation audio, marker beacon audio, speaker selection, and other available controls. The course emphasizes system familiarization, control identification, frequency management, audio selection, and understanding the relationship between cockpit communication panels.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the main Radio Tuning Panels and understand their basic functions.
  • Differentiate between active and standby frequency displays.
  • Use tuning knobs to adjust standby communication frequencies.
  • Understand how multiple Radio Tuning Panels can control the same radio.
  • Identify VHF 1, VHF 2, and VHF 3 radio selection controls.
  • Identify the main sections and functions of the Audio Control Panel.
  • Select the appropriate microphone source for radio transmission.
  • Recognize flight interphone, service interphone, and Passenger Address functions.
  • Identify navigation receiver audio, marker beacon, speaker, R/T, and I/C controls.
  • Understand the basic functions of NORM, ALT, call control, and configuration-dependent inoperative controls.
  • Recognize the purpose of available audio selections and control indications.

This Aircraft Radio Communication & Audio Control Systems training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.

Aircraft Radio Communication & Audio Control Systems Training for Aircraft Electronics Technicians

Aircraft radio communication and audio control systems training for electronics technicians

At ImmerseLearn, we equip Aircraft Electronics Technicians with foundational knowledge of aircraft radio communication and audio control systems. This microcredential strengthens control-panel identification, frequency selection, active and standby frequency management, radio selection, audio adjustment, and system familiarization through web-based and immersive VR learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Radio Tuning Panel Identification −
Explore the upper-left, upper-right, and lower Radio Tuning Panels and understand their respective roles in selecting and adjusting communication frequencies. Learners become familiar with the active and standby displays, tuning knobs, radio selectors, and frequency transfer buttons.
Frequency Selection and Transfer +
Practice adjusting standby frequencies and transferring them to the active display using the double-arrow transfer button. Learners observe how active and standby frequencies exchange positions and develop an understanding of basic frequency management through the simulated controls.
Interconnected Radio Tuning Panels +
Learn how multiple Radio Tuning Panels can control the same selected VHF radio. Learners practice selecting VHF 1 and VHF 2 on the designated panels, adjusting standby frequencies, and observing how the selected radio and frequency information are reflected across the connected displays.
Audio Control Panel and Microphone Selection +
Identify the Audio Control Panel and explore its microphone selector buttons. Learners practice selecting VHF communication radios for transmission and recognize the illuminated indicators that identify the selected microphone source.
Receiver Volume and Audio Source Management +
Practice adjusting VHF 1 and VHF 2 receiver volume controls to increase or decrease incoming audio. Learners also explore the functions of flight interphone, service interphone, Passenger Address, navigation receivers, marker beacon audio, and cockpit speaker selection.
Additional Audio Controls and System Familiarization +
Explore other available controls, including R/T and I/C selection, marker beacon audio modes, NORM and ALT positions, call control, and configuration-dependent inoperative controls. Learners develop a foundational understanding of the purpose of these controls and their role in cockpit communication and audio management.

By completing this microcredential, learners will develop foundational knowledge of aircraft radio communication and audio control systems. Learners will be able to identify Radio Tuning Panels, adjust and transfer frequencies, understand how interconnected panels control selected radios, operate simulated microphone and receiver volume controls, and recognize the functions of key audio control selections. These skills support system familiarization and foundational technical knowledge for aircraft electronics maintenance environments.
