Icons representing a four-step workflow: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement

About the Course:

This Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Architecture and Components microcredential trains EV technicians to understand the architecture, design principles, and key components of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Learners will explore major BEV systems including the high-voltage battery pack, electric motor, inverter, onboard charger, DC-DC converter, thermal management system, charging interface, and vehicle control modules. The course emphasizes component functionality, system integration, energy flow, and safe handling practices associated with electric vehicle technologies.

Technicians will also learn how individual components interact to deliver propulsion, energy efficiency, and vehicle performance while gaining a foundational understanding of modern BEV design.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the major components of a battery electric vehicle
  • Understand the function of the high-voltage battery pack and energy storage system
  • Explain the operation of electric motors and power electronics
  • Describe the role of inverters, converters, and onboard chargers
  • Understand the charging system and charging interface components
  • Recognize thermal management systems and their importance in BEV performance
  • Trace energy flow through the vehicle during driving and charging
  • Identify the purpose of vehicle control modules and communication systems

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

At ImmerseLearn, we equip electric vehicle technicians with the foundational knowledge required to understand and work with modern battery electric vehicle systems. This microcredential strengthens technical competency, system awareness, and component identification through immersive VR-based learning.

BEV System Knowledge
Learn the structure and operation of key BEV systems, including batteries, motors, power electronics, charging equipment, and thermal management components. Technicians gain a comprehensive understanding of how these systems work together to power electric vehicles.
Component Identification Skills +
Develop the ability to recognize and locate critical BEV components within the vehicle architecture. Learners will understand component functions, connections, and their role in overall vehicle operation.
Energy Flow Understanding +
Explore how electrical energy is stored, converted, and delivered throughout the vehicle. Learners will follow energy movement during charging, vehicle operation, regenerative braking, and auxiliary system use.
System Integration and Safety +
Understand how various BEV systems communicate and operate as an integrated platform. Emphasis is placed on safe interaction with high-voltage components, proper identification of electrical systems, and adherence to industry safety practices.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to identify BEV components, understand vehicle architecture, and support the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of battery electric vehicles.
