About the Course:

This Boeing 737 Center Pedestal Controls Familiarization microcredential introduces Aircraft Electronics Technicians to the primary control panels and systems located on the Boeing 737 center pedestal.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will explore radio tuning controls, cargo fire control switches, VHF navigation controls, ADF controls, rudder and aileron trim controls, stabilizer trim override, flight deck door controls, and cockpit lighting controls. Learners will practice adjusting standby radio frequencies, transferring frequencies to active status, selecting ILS navigation mode, identifying cargo fire arming indicators, and recognizing the functions of flight control trim and lighting controls.

The course emphasizes control identification, panel functionality, frequency selection, status indication, and understanding the purpose of key cockpit systems through interactive familiarization activities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the major control panels located on the Boeing 737 center pedestal.
  • Explain the functions of the radio tuning panel and its active and standby frequency displays.
  • Adjust standby radio frequencies and use the frequency transfer button.
  • Identify the forward and aft cargo fire control switches and their arming indicators.
  • Explain the function of the VHF navigation control panel.
  • Select ILS mode and transfer a selected navigation frequency to active status.
  • Describe the purpose of the Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) control panel.
  • Recognize ADF, ANT, and OFF modes and identify the purpose of the TONE control and ADF INOP indicator.
  • Explain how rudder trim and aileron trim controls help reduce continuous pilot control pressure.
  • Identify the stabilizer trim override switch and flight deck door control.
  • Explain the functions of floodlight and panel lighting brightness controls.
  • Recognize the importance of correct control selection and status indication when familiarizing themselves with aircraft cockpit systems.

This Boeing 737 Center Pedestal Controls Familiarization training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.

Boeing 737 Center Pedestal Controls Familiarization Training for Aircraft Electronics Technicians

Aircraft electronics technician practicing air conditioning pack sensor replacement

At ImmerseLearn, we equip Aircraft Electronics Technicians with foundational knowledge of aircraft cockpit controls and system interfaces. This microcredential strengthens control-panel identification, frequency tuning awareness, navigation system familiarization, trim control recognition, status indicator interpretation, and understanding of cockpit lighting and access controls through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Radio Tuning and Frequency Selection −
Explore the Boeing 737 radio tuning panel and understand how active and standby frequencies are displayed. Learners practice using the tuning knobs to set a standby frequency and the transfer button to exchange the active and standby frequencies.
Cargo Fire Control Panel +
Identify the cargo fire control panel and its controls for the forward and aft cargo compartments. Learners practice selecting the highlighted cargo fire ARM switch and recognizing the corresponding armed indicator, reinforcing their understanding of the panel's status indications.
VHF Navigation and ILS Controls +
Explore the VHF navigation control panel and its role in tuning VOR and ILS navigation frequencies. Learners practice selecting ILS mode using the display controls and transferring the selected standby frequency to active status. They also become familiar with how an active ILS navigation source supports runway alignment and descent guidance displays.
ADF Control Panel +
Learn the purpose of the Automatic Direction Finder (ADF) control panel and its role in tuning frequencies for Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) stations. Learners explore the ADF, ANT, and OFF mode selections, frequency tuning, station identification audio through the TONE control, and the ADF INOP fault indicator.
Rudder and Aileron Trim Controls +
Identify the rudder trim control and aileron trim switches. Learners explore how rudder trim adjusts the rudder's neutral position to help reduce continuous rudder-pedal pressure, while aileron trim helps reduce continuous control-wheel pressure when the aircraft tends to roll to one side.
Stabilizer Trim Override and Flight Deck Door Controls +
Explore the stabilizer trim override switch and flight deck door control. Learners recognize the normal NORM trim switch position and become familiar with the door selector functions for automatic locking, unlocking, and denying entry.
Flood and Panel Lighting Controls +
Identify the cockpit lighting control panel and understand the functions of the FLOOD BRT and PANEL BRT controls. Learners explore how these knobs adjust general floodlight brightness and panel-label backlighting, including the effect of turning the controls toward BRT or OFF.

By completing this microcredential, learners will develop foundational knowledge of Boeing 737 center pedestal controls and their functions. Learners will be able to identify key radio, navigation, cargo fire, trim, door, and lighting controls; understand frequency transfer and status indications; and recognize how these controls support cockpit system operation. This familiarization provides a foundation for further aircraft systems training and control-panel knowledge development.
