Case Cart Management
About the Course:
The Case Cart Management microcredential equips learners with essential knowledge and hands-on skills for the accurate preparation, organization, and handling of surgical case carts. Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice assembling case carts based on surgical procedures, verifying instruments and supplies, and ensuring proper transport to and from the operating room. This microcredential is part of our sterile processing technician program, where learners build complete, job-ready skills for real clinical environments.
The course emphasizes attention to detail, workflow efficiency, infection control standards, and effective coordination with the surgical team to support safe and timely procedures.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the role of case carts in surgical workflow and patient safety.
- Identify the components and supplies required for different surgical procedures.
- Demonstrate accurate case cart assembly based on preference cards and surgical schedules.
- Perform verification processes to ensure completeness and sterility of instruments and supplies.
- Apply proper handling, transport, and storage techniques to maintain sterility and prevent contamination.
- Follow infection control protocols and PPE requirements during case cart preparation and handling.
- Recognize common errors in case cart preparation and implement strategies to prevent them.
Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
