About the Course:

Clinical Rectal Medication Administration is an essential clinical skill performed by Clinical Medical Assistants in physician offices, outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, specialty practices, and other healthcare settings. In this microcredential, learners are introduced to the principles and clinical applications of administering rectal medications using suppositories for therapeutic purposes, including the management of nausea, constipation, fever, pain, and other conditions requiring rectal medication delivery. The training follows a standardized workflow that includes patient identification, allergy verification, appropriate positioning, medication administration, and documentation.  

Through interactive web-based learning modules, learners gain practical knowledge of preparing equipment, maintaining patient privacy, positioning the patient correctly in the Sims' position, and safely administering rectal medications while following physician orders and established clinical protocols. The course emphasizes patient identification, medication verification, allergy screening, aseptic technique, patient communication, and proper medication administration to promote safe, comfortable, and effective patient care.  

Learners will also develop skills in monitoring patients following medication administration, providing post-procedure instructions, documenting medication administration accurately, and communicating findings effectively with supervising healthcare providers. The course reinforces professionalism, infection prevention, patient safety, proper waste disposal, and accurate clinical documentation required in modern medical assisting practice.
