About the Course:

The Dermatology Procedures microcredential introduces learners to essential skin assessment and clinical support procedures as part of our clinical medical assistant training, preparing them for real-world outpatient and specialty care settings. Through immersive VR simulations and interactive learning modules, learners gain foundational knowledge of skin anatomy, common dermatologic conditions, and hands-on procedures performed in dermatology clinics. 
The course emphasizes patient communication, safety, aseptic technique, and proper documentation core competencies for Certified Medical Assistants assisting with dermatologic care and procedures. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the layers, structures, and primary functions of the skin and integumentary system.
  • Recognize signs, symptoms, and visual indicators of common dermatologic conditions.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for assisting with dermatology procedures such as biopsies, wound care, cryotherapy, and specimen collection.
  • Apply infection control, safety protocols, and sterile-field standards in dermatology settings.
  • Accurately document dermatologic findings, treatments, and patient interactions following clinical guidelines.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Experience hands-on simulations that guide learners through preparing the patient, setting up sterile instruments, and assisting with procedures such as skin biopsies, cryotherapy, incision and drainage, and topical treatments. Practice safe handling of specimens for laboratory evaluation.
Safety, Infection Control & Patient Care +
Understand the importance of aseptic technique, wound care protocols, PPE use, and patient safety in dermatology environments. Learn how to maintain professional boundaries and ensure patient comfort during sensitive or anxiety-provoking procedures.
Documentation & Follow-Up Care +
Gain practical experience in documenting lesions, procedure notes, wound progression, and patient instructions using standardized dermatology charts and electronic systems. Learn how to support patient education regarding post-procedure care and follow-up.
