Icons representing a four-step workflow: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement

About the Course:

This Grease Interceptor Inspection Procedures microcredential trains plumbing technicians to safely inspect grease interceptors used in commercial and residential plumbing systems. Learners will explore the major components of a grease interceptor and develop practical skills for identifying its condition and recognizing potential issues.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice accessing the grease interceptor, inspecting the tank, lid, inlet and outlet connections, baffles, and visible grease accumulation. The course emphasizes systematic inspection, safety, proper identification of abnormalities, and accurate reporting of inspection findings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the major components of a grease interceptor and their functions.
  • Understand the purpose of grease interceptors in plumbing systems.
  • Safely prepare the work area before performing an inspection.
  • Inspect the interceptor tank, lid, and accessible components for visible issues.
  • Examine inlet and outlet connections for damage, blockage, or abnormalities.
  • Inspect baffles and internal areas for visible damage or buildup.
  • Identify excessive grease accumulation and other potential issues.
  • Recognize signs of leaks, corrosion, cracks, or structural damage.
  • Apply appropriate PPE and safe work practices during inspection.

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

Plumbing shower cartridge repair and operation check

At ImmerseLearn, we equip plumbing technicians with practical skills required to inspect grease interceptor systems safely and accurately. This microcredential strengthens component identification, visual inspection, condition recognition, safety awareness, and inspection reporting through immersive VR-based learning.

Grease Interceptor Components and Identification
Explore the major components of a grease interceptor, including the tank, access lid, inlet and outlet connections, baffles, and internal areas. Learners understand the purpose of each component and its role in the plumbing system.
Grease Interceptor Inspection Procedures +
Practice systematically inspecting accessible areas of the grease interceptor. Learners examine the tank, lid, connections, baffles, and internal surfaces while developing a structured approach to identifying visible conditions.
Grease Accumulation and Condition Assessment +
Learn to recognize visible grease buildup and other conditions that may affect the interceptor. Learners practice identifying excessive accumulation, blockages, leaks, corrosion, cracks, and other abnormalities.
Safety and Inspection Practices +
Apply appropriate PPE and safe work practices when accessing and inspecting grease interceptor systems. Learners reinforce awareness of potential hazards and proper procedures for conducting inspections safely.
Inspection Findings and Reporting +
Develop skills in recognizing and documenting abnormal conditions identified during inspection. Learners practice accurately recording findings and communicating issues that may require further attention according to workplace procedures.

By completing this microcredential, plumbing technicians will develop the practical skills needed to identify and inspect grease interceptor components, recognize visible abnormalities and grease accumulation, and safely document and report inspection findings.
