About the Course:
This Introduction to Sterile Processing microcredential introduces learners to the field of sterile processing and the critical role of the Central Service or Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) in healthcare facilities. Through immersive VR training, learners explore the department’s layout, workflows, and core functions while gaining familiarity with essential terminology and foundational principles of infection prevention and instrument reprocessing.
This course builds a strong conceptual foundation for advanced sterile processing procedures and serves as the first step toward our Sterile Processing Technician Training Program, supporting learners in progressing toward professional roles in sterile processing.
Learning Objectives:
- Define key terminology used in sterile processing and central service operations.
- Understand the purpose, structure, and workflow of the Central Service Department (CSD/CSSD).
- Identify the major areas within the CSSD, including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and storage.
- Recognize the role of sterile processing in maintaining patient safety and infection control.
- Describe the responsibilities and interdepartmental relationships of sterile processing technicians.
Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
