About the Course:

Ophthalmic Eye Drop Administration is a fundamental clinical procedure performed by Clinical Medical Assistants in physician offices, ophthalmology and optometry clinics, outpatient facilities, urgent care centers, and other healthcare settings. In this microcredential, learners are introduced to the principles and clinical applications of ophthalmic medication administration, including the treatment of eye infections, glaucoma, dry eyes, allergies, inflammation, and other ocular conditions. 

Through immersive VR simulations, learners gain hands-on experience safely administering ophthalmic medications while following physician orders and established clinical protocols. The course emphasizes patient identification, medication verification, allergy screening, proper patient positioning, hand hygiene, aseptic technique, correct eye drop instillation, preventing contamination of the dropper tip, and ensuring patient comfort throughout the procedure. 

Learners will also practice monitoring patient responses, recognizing adverse reactions, documenting medication administration accurately, and communicating findings effectively to supervising healthcare providers. The course reinforces professionalism, patient safety, infection prevention, and proper ophthalmic medication administration required in modern clinical practice.

Eye Drop Administration Procedure +
Engage in immersive VR scenarios to practice verifying medications, positioning the patient correctly, gently retracting the lower eyelid to create the conjunctival sac, instilling the prescribed number of drops without contaminating the dropper tip, instructing the patient to close the eye gently, and applying gentle pressure to the nasolacrimal duct when indicated. Develop confidence in administering ophthalmic medications safely while maximizing therapeutic effectiveness and patient comfort.
Infection Control and Patient Safety +
Understand the importance of hand hygiene, appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE), medication verification, maintaining aseptic technique, preventing cross-contamination, proper handling of ophthalmic medications, and following standard precautions throughout the procedure to ensure safe patient care.
