About the Course:

Patient Foot Care: Hygiene & Comfort is an essential patient care skill for Nursing Assistants working in hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and other healthcare settings. This microcredential introduces learners to the purpose and importance of providing safe, hygienic, and comfortable foot care while promoting patient dignity, comfort, infection prevention, and overall well-being. 

Through immersive VR simulations, learners gain hands-on experience performing a complete foot care procedure while following proper patient care protocols, hand hygiene practices, PPE use, water temperature checks, linen handling, and safe patient interaction. The course emphasizes maintaining privacy, effective communication, gentle handling, and professional care throughout the procedure. 

Learners will practice preparing the environment, introducing themselves and confirming patient identity, explaining the procedure, checking water temperature, soaking and cleansing the feet, cleaning the toenails, drying the feet, and applying lotion. The course reinforces safe hygiene practices, organized workflow, patient comfort, and professional standards required for providing effective foot care in clinical environments.

Learn proper preparation procedures before beginning foot care, including maintaining patient privacy, performing hand hygiene, applying gloves, gathering supplies, confirming patient identity, and explaining the procedure. Practice creating a safe, clean, and comfortable environment while following infection prevention practices.
Preparing the Basin and Soaking the Feet +
Engage in immersive VR scenarios to practice checking the water temperature, allowing the patient to confirm the temperature, positioning the basin safely, protecting the bed with a chuck pad, and removing the patient's socks appropriately. Learn how to safely position and soak the patient's feet for the recommended period while maintaining comfort and dignity.
Cleansing the Feet and Nails +
Practice preparing and using a washcloth with soap to gently cleanse each foot. Learners will also practice safely lifting and supporting the feet while cleaning and using a nail brush to clean the toenails. The training emphasizes gentle handling, proper hygiene, organized workflow, and patient comfort throughout the procedure.
Drying and Applying Lotion +
Develop skills in safely removing the basin, drying both feet thoroughly with a clean towel, and disposing of used linens appropriately. Practice warming lotion between the hands before gently applying it to the patient's legs while maintaining comfort, cleanliness, and professional care standards.

By completing this microcredential, learners will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in performing patient foot care safely and efficiently.
