About the Course:

This Plumbing: Fire Safety Essentials microcredential equips plumbing technicians with the knowledge and practical skills required to identify fire hazards, select the appropriate fire extinguisher, and respond safely to fire emergencies encountered during plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair activities.

Learners will practice real-world fire safety procedures including hazard recognition, extinguisher classification, equipment inspection, PASS (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) operation techniques, emergency response protocols, and workplace fire prevention practices. The course emphasizes safety compliance, risk assessment, and proper extinguisher usage to reduce workplace incidents and protect personnel, property, and equipment.

Technicians will gain hands-on experience in fire extinguisher operation, emergency preparedness, and fire prevention strategies, improving jobsite safety and regulatory compliance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify common fire hazards associated with plumbing installation and maintenance activities
  • Recognize different classes of fires and appropriate extinguisher types
  • Understand fire extinguisher components, markings, and operating principles
  • Safely inspect fire extinguishers for readiness and compliance
  • Apply the PASS method correctly during fire extinguisher operation
  • Select the proper extinguisher based on the type of fire emergency
  • Follow workplace fire response and evacuation procedures
  • Demonstrate safe practices when working around combustible materials, electrical systems, and hot work activities
  • Perform basic fire risk assessments in plumbing work environments
  • Maintain compliance with workplace safety standards and fire protection requirements

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
