About the Course:

Safe Administration of Subcutaneous (SQ) Injections is a fundamental clinical procedure performed by Clinical Medical Assistants in physician offices, outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, specialty practices, and other healthcare settings. In this microcredential, learners are introduced to the purpose and clinical applications of subcutaneous injections, including the safe administration of medications such as insulin, blood thinners, and selected vaccines into the fatty tissue beneath the skin.  

Through interactive web-based learning modules, learners gain practical knowledge of preparing medications, selecting appropriate injection sites, and administering subcutaneous injections while following physician orders and established clinical protocols. The course emphasizes patient identification, medication verification, allergy screening, site selection, aseptic technique, proper needle angle, safe medication administration, and sharps disposal to ensure safe and effective patient care.  

Learners will also develop skills in monitoring patients following injection, recognizing adverse reactions, documenting medication administration accurately, and communicating findings effectively with supervising healthcare providers. The course reinforces professionalism, infection prevention, patient safety, and proper injection techniques required in modern clinical practice.
