Four-step competency-based learning model: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement.

About the Course:

This Solar Battery Storage Inspection microcredential trains PV technicians to safely inspect battery storage systems used in photovoltaic applications. Learners will develop an understanding of battery storage components, connections, physical condition, and basic performance indicators.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice identifying battery components, inspecting terminals, cables, connections, enclosures, and ventilation areas, checking for visible damage or abnormal conditions, and verifying basic battery system status. The course emphasizes electrical safety, proper PPE, safe inspection practices, and recognizing conditions that may affect battery performance and system reliability.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify major components of PV battery storage systems.
  • Explain the purpose of battery storage in photovoltaic systems.
  • Inspect batteries, terminals, cables, connectors, and enclosures for visible issues.
  • Recognize signs of damage, corrosion, leakage, swelling, overheating, or loose connections.
  • Check battery connections and basic system indicators.
  • Understand proper battery ventilation and environmental requirements.
  • Recognize conditions that may affect battery performance and system reliability.
  • Record and communicate battery inspection findings accurately.

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

Stand-alone PV system training for solar technicians

Workforce Development

PV technician testing stand-alone solar system performance

At ImmerseLearn, we equip solar technicians with practical skills for safely inspecting battery storage systems used in PV applications. This microcredential strengthens battery component identification, visual inspection, safety awareness, condition recognition, and inspection documentation through immersive VR-based learning.

Battery Storage System Fundamentals
Explore the purpose and role of battery storage within PV systems. Learners identify different battery storage components and understand how stored electrical energy supports power availability when solar generation is limited.
Battery Components and Connections +
Learn to identify battery banks, modules, terminals, cables, connectors, enclosures, protection devices, and related components. Learners understand how proper connections support safe and reliable battery operation.
Battery Condition Inspection +
Practice systematically inspecting battery storage systems for visible signs of damage, corrosion, leakage, swelling, overheating, loose connections, and other abnormal conditions. Learners develop awareness of conditions that may require further attention.
Ventilation and Environmental Inspection +
Explore the importance of proper battery enclosure conditions, ventilation, temperature, cleanliness, and surrounding areas. Learners practice identifying environmental conditions that can affect battery safety and performance.

By completing this microcredential, PV technicians will develop the practical skills needed to identify and inspect battery storage systems, recognize visible issues and abnormal conditions, follow appropriate electrical safety practices, and document inspection findings to support safe and reliable PV system operation.
