Structural Requirements of PV Systems
About the Course:
Proper structural planning is essential for safe, efficient, and code-compliant PV system installations. This microcredential course provides a comprehensive understanding of the structural requirements for photovoltaic systems, including building codes, load considerations, racking methods, and roofing systems. Learners will engage with immersive Virtual Reality (VR) simulations to visualize different installation environments and apply best practices to real-world structural scenarios. This microcredential is part of our Solar Installation Training Program, preparing technicians for real-world renewable energy careers.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand local building codes and footing requirements for PV system installations.
- Evaluate static and dynamic load factors, such as wind and snow loads, and assess rooftop conditions like age, material, and temperature effects.
- Identify various roofing systems (e.g., rafters, trusses, membrane types) and structural considerations during PV mounting.
- Compare different PV racking systems, including roof-mounted, ground-mounted, and pole-mounted options.
- Apply structural assessment skills in immersive VR simulations to plan safe and compliant PV installations.
Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
