About the Course:

This Surgical Attire & OR Preparation microcredential introduces Surgical Technology learners to the appropriate attire, personal preparation, and protective equipment used when preparing to enter restricted surgical areas such as the operating room.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice hand hygiene, putting on clean scrubs, displaying a hospital ID, applying a bouffant cap, surgical face mask, and face shield, removing jewelry, maintaining appropriate nail hygiene, applying shoe covers, performing hand hygiene again, and applying sterile gloves. The course emphasizes personal cleanliness, infection prevention, contamination control, and appropriate surgical attire practices.

Learning Objectives:

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare Surgical Technology learners with essential skills required for appropriate surgical attire and personal preparation in operating room environments. This microcredential strengthens hand hygiene, surgical attire selection and application, personal accessory control, PPE use, contamination prevention, and sterile gloving through immersive VR-based learning.

Hand Hygiene and Personal Preparation −
Practice proper handwashing, rinsing, and hand drying before beginning surgical attire preparation. Learners reinforce the importance of personal cleanliness and hand hygiene as part of infection prevention.
Clean Scrubs and Hospital Identification+
Learn the purpose of clean surgical scrubs and practice putting them on before entering restricted areas. Learners also identify the hospital ID badge and understand its role in professional identification within the healthcare environment.
Head, Face, and Eye Protection+
Practice applying a bouffant cap to completely cover the hair, followed by a surgical face mask and face shield. Learners understand how these protective items support contamination control and provide protection during surgical procedures.
Personal Accessories and Footwear Protection+
Learn to remove jewelry and personal accessories and maintain appropriate nail hygiene before entering the operating room. Learners also practice inspecting and applying shoe covers to support a cleaner surgical environment.
