Icons representing a four-step workflow: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement

About the Course:

This  Aircraft High-Frequency Radio System Troubleshooting microcredential introduces Aircraft Electronics Technicians to the troubleshooting procedures used to investigate a radio tuning panel fault and test the associated receiver in an aircraft avionics system.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice interpreting a FAIL indication on the radio tuning panel, accessing the avionics bay, removing an access door, testing the receiver, and inspecting and cleaning the receiver and its connector surfaces. Learners will then reinstall the receiver, repeat the test, interpret the indicator light, and recognize when receiver replacement may be required.

The course emphasizes systematic fault identification, receiver testing, connector cleanliness, careful component handling, test-result interpretation, and proper reassembly of avionics equipment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize a FAIL indication on an aircraft radio tuning panel.
  • Understand the need to investigate faults affecting radio tuning functionality.
  • Access the designated avionics bay for troubleshooting.
  • Safely remove and reinstall an avionics access door using the appropriate tool.
  • Perform the receiver test using the designated test control.
  • Interpret receiver test results based on the indicator light.
  • Remove and handle the receiver according to the demonstrated procedure.
  • Inspect and clean the receiver's exterior and connector surfaces.
  • Determine when a receiver may require replacement if it continues to fail testing.
  • Secure the access door and reinstall the required screw.
  • Follow applicable aircraft maintenance procedures when troubleshooting avionics equipment.

This Aircraft High-Frequency Radio System Troubleshooting training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.

Who This HF Radio Troubleshooting Training Is For

Technician in a hard hat inspecting equipment

At ImmerseLearn, we equip Aircraft Electronics Technicians with the practical skills required to troubleshoot faults in aircraft radio and avionics systems. This microcredential strengthens fault recognition, receiver testing, component handling, connector cleaning, test-result interpretation, and equipment reassembly through web-based and immersive VR learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Radio Tuning Panel Fault Identification −
Learn to recognize the FAIL indication displayed on the radio tuning panel and understand that it signals a detected fault affecting the panel or the radio system it controls. Learners practice identifying the need for further troubleshooting in the avionics bay.
Avionics Bay Access and Receiver Testing +
Practice removing the designated access door and locating the receiver for testing. Learners use the receiver's test control and interpret the green indicator light to determine whether the receiver has passed the test.
Receiver Inspection and Connector Cleaning +
Learn to remove the receiver from its shelf and inspect its exterior and connector surfaces. Learners practice using a cleaning brush to remove visible contamination from the designated areas while handling the receiver carefully.
Receiver Reinstallation and Retesting +
Practice returning the receiver to its designated shelf, securing the access controls, and repeating the receiver test. Learners compare the test results before and after cleaning to determine whether the receiver passes the procedure.
Fault Resolution and Equipment Reassembly +
Learn to recognize when a receiver that continues to fail testing may need replacement with a serviceable unit. Learners complete the procedure by reinstalling the access door, securing the screw, and returning tools to their designated storage location.

By completing this microcredential, learners will develop practical knowledge and hands-on experience in troubleshooting a high-frequency radio system fault through receiver testing and inspection. Learners will be able to recognize a radio tuning panel fault indication, access and test the receiver, clean its exterior and connector surfaces, interpret test results, identify when replacement may be required, and complete the demonstrated reassembly procedure in accordance with applicable aircraft maintenance practices.
