About the Course:

This Aircraft Maintenance Safety & Hazard Recognition microcredential introduces Aircraft Electronics Technicians to common safety hazards encountered in aircraft maintenance work areas and the appropriate actions used to control them.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will identify and address workplace hazards, including missing personal protective equipment, foreign object debris (FOD), tools left in work areas, damaged electrical wiring, and exposed electrical panels. Learners will practice using required PPE, removing FOD, identifying electrical hazards, placing hazard warning signs, and securing open electrical panels.

The course emphasizes hazard recognition, FOD prevention, electrical safety awareness, proper PPE use, hazard communication, and maintaining a safe and organized aircraft maintenance workplace.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify common safety hazards in aircraft maintenance work areas.
  • Recognize the importance of required PPE, including safety glasses and gloves.
  • Demonstrate proper use of required PPE before beginning maintenance activities.
  • Identify foreign objects and debris that may create safety or FOD hazards.
  • Remove loose objects and tools from maintenance work areas.
  • Recognize the hazards associated with damaged electrical wire insulation.
  • Identify electrical hazards that may result from exposed conductors or damaged wiring.
  • Recognize that damaged electrical wires must be replaced with approved wiring according to applicable maintenance procedures.
  • Identify open electrical panels and exposed wiring as potential electrical hazards.
  • Secure an open electrical panel when appropriate.
  • Maintain awareness of organized and safe maintenance work areas.

This Aircraft Maintenance Safety & Hazard Recognition training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.

Aircraft Maintenance Safety & Hazard Recognition Training for AET Technicians

AET technician practicing aircraft hangar hazard recognition and safety

At ImmerseLearn, we equip Aircraft Electronics Technicians with practical knowledge required to recognize and control common maintenance workplace safety hazards. This microcredential strengthens PPE awareness, FOD prevention, electrical hazard recognition, hazard communication, and safe workplace practices through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

PPE and Personal Safety −
Learn to recognize situations where required PPE is missing and practice putting on safety gloves and safety glasses before beginning maintenance activities. Learners reinforce the importance of using appropriate protective equipment while working in aircraft maintenance environments.
Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Prevention +
Practice identifying loose objects and tools that can create safety hazards or contribute to foreign object damage. Learners remove items such as loose bolts and tools from the work area and place them in the designated FOD bag to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Electrical Wiring Hazards +
Identify damaged electrical cable insulation and understand the hazards associated with exposed conductors, including potential electrical shock, short circuits, and equipment damage. Learners recognize that damaged wiring must be replaced with approved wiring of the correct type and specification in accordance with applicable aircraft maintenance procedures.
Electrical Panel and Hazard Identification +
Recognize open electrical panels and exposed wiring as potential electrical hazards. Learners practice securing an open electrical panel and placing appropriate ELECTRIC HAZARD and DANGER signs to clearly communicate hazardous areas to personnel.
Maintenance Workplace Hazard Control +
Develop awareness of how proper PPE, FOD removal, electrical hazard identification, warning signs, and organized work areas contribute to a safer maintenance environment. Learners practice taking appropriate corrective actions when hazards are identified.

By completing this microcredential, learners will develop practical knowledge and hands-on experience in recognizing and controlling common maintenance workplace safety hazards. Learners will be able to identify PPE requirements, prevent FOD, recognize damaged electrical wiring and exposed electrical hazards, use appropriate warning signs, secure hazardous areas, and maintain safer aircraft maintenance work environments.
