Icons representing a four-step workflow: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement

About the Course:

Blood Pressure Measurement is a fundamental clinical skill for Clinical Medical Assistants working in physician offices, outpatient clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare environments. In this microcredential, learners are introduced to the purpose and clinical importance of blood pressure measurement, including its role in monitoring cardiovascular health, detecting abnormalities, and supporting early identification of medical conditions such as hypertension or hypotension.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners gain practical experience performing blood pressure assessments while following proper patient preparation procedures, equipment handling protocols, and patient safety requirements. The course emphasizes accurate measurement techniques, correct cuff placement, patient positioning, and maintaining proper clinical procedures throughout the assessment process.

Learners will also practice identifying normal and abnormal blood pressure readings, documenting results accurately, and communicating findings effectively to supervising healthcare providers. The course highlights professionalism, patient safety, infection prevention, and accurate clinical assessment practices essential in healthcare environments.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the purpose and clinical significance of blood pressure measurement.
  • Understand blood pressure assessment procedures, equipment handling, and patient safety requirements.
  • Demonstrate proper patient preparation and positioning procedures before measurement.
  • Perform blood pressure measurement using correct techniques and clinical protocols.
  • Apply infection control and safety procedures throughout the assessment process.
  • Accurately interpret, document, and communicate blood pressure readings.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare healthcare learners with critical clinical assessment skills required in modern medical assisting environments. This microcredential develops competency in vital sign assessment, patient preparation, infection prevention, blood pressure measurement techniques, result interpretation, and medical documentation necessary for delivering safe and effective patient care.

Understanding Blood Pressure Assessment
Explore interactive 3D visuals explaining the cardiovascular system, systolic and diastolic pressure, normal blood pressure ranges, and the importance of blood pressure monitoring in patient care. Understand how blood pressure measurement helps healthcare providers assess cardiovascular health and identify potential medical concerns.
Patient Preparation and Safety Procedures +
Learn the principles of blood pressure assessment, including reviewing patient history, selecting appropriate cuff size, preparing equipment, proper patient positioning, and following safety monitoring procedures. Experience virtual demonstrations of correct preparation techniques and compliance with clinical assessment standards.
Blood Pressure Measurement Procedure +
Engage in immersive VR scenarios to practice patient identification, positioning the patient correctly, placing the cuff accurately, operating blood pressure equipment, and obtaining precise blood pressure readings. Learn correct measurement procedures while ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the assessment process.
Infection Control and Patient Safety +
Understand the importance of hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), cleaning blood pressure equipment, and proper infection prevention procedures. Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe and compliant clinical environment for both patients and healthcare professionals.
Result Interpretation and Documentation +
Develop skills in accurately identifying normal, elevated, and abnormal blood pressure readings. Learn proper documentation procedures, reporting protocols, and effective communication techniques for conveying findings to supervising healthcare providers for further evaluation and patient care planning.

By completing this microcredential, learners will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in determining a patient’s blood pressure. Learners will develop essential competencies in patient preparation, blood pressure assessment techniques, infection control, result interpretation, and medical documentation necessary to support accurate and efficient patient care in CMA and allied health settings.
