About the Course:

This Contact Crimping microcredential introduces Aircraft Electronics Technicians to the fundamental procedures used to prepare wires and securely attach contact pins using a crimping tool. Learners will practice measuring and marking wires, removing insulation to the required length, positioning contact pins, and performing controlled crimping.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice preparing white, blue, and red wires, using a wire stripping tool correctly, selecting and positioning contact pins, adjusting the crimping tool to the required crimp size, and securing each contact to the wire conductor. The course emphasizes accurate wire preparation, proper tool handling, correct contact positioning, and reliable crimp connections.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the purpose of contact crimping in aircraft electrical wiring.
  • Identify the basic tools used for wire preparation and contact crimping.
  • Measure and mark wires accurately using a steel scale and marker.
  • Select and use the appropriate wire stripping tool.
  • Remove insulation to the specified measurement without damaging the conductor.
  • Recognize the importance of maintaining the correct strip length.
  • Position contact pins correctly onto stripped wire conductors.
  • Ensure the stripped conductor is fully inserted into the contact pin.
  • Adjust the crimping tool to the required crimp size.
  • Perform proper crimping techniques to secure contact pins to wires.
  • Recognize the importance of accurate wire preparation and contact placement for reliable electrical connections.

This Contact Crimping training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.

Contact Crimping Training for AET Technicians

AET technician practicing aircraft hangar hazard recognition and safety

At ImmerseLearn, we equip Aircraft Electronics Technicians with practical skills required for accurate wire preparation and contact crimping. This microcredential strengthens measurement, wire marking, insulation stripping, contact pin installation, crimp-tool operation, and electrical connection preparation through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Wire Measurement and Marking −
Practice positioning white, blue, and red wires alongside a steel scale and accurately marking each wire at the specified measurement point. Learners develop precision in wire preparation before stripping the insulation.
Wire Stripping and Preparation +
Learn to use a wire stripping tool to remove insulation without damaging the conductor. Learners practice positioning each marked wire correctly and stripping the insulation only up to the designated measurement point.
Contact Pin Installation +
Practice selecting contact pins and positioning them onto the stripped ends of the prepared wires. Learners ensure the conductor is fully inserted into the contact barrel and that no bare conductor remains exposed outside the contact.
Crimp Tool Setup and Adjustment +
Learn to identify and operate the crimping tool used to secure contact pins to wire conductors. Learners practice adjusting the crimping tool to the specified crimp size and correctly positioning the contact within the crimping die.
Contact Crimping Techniques +
Practice crimping the contact pins onto the white, blue, and red wires using the appropriate tool position and technique. Learners develop consistency and accuracy when creating secure wire-to-contact connections.

By completing this microcredential, learners will develop practical knowledge and hands-on experience in wire preparation and contact crimping. Learners will be able to accurately measure and mark wires, strip insulation to the required length, position contact pins, adjust the crimping tool, and perform proper crimping techniques to prepare reliable electrical connections for aircraft electronics applications.
