About the Course:

The Endoscope and Its Care microcredential equips learners with essential knowledge and hands-on skills for the safe handling, cleaning, and maintenance of both rigid and flexible endoscopes. Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice proper reprocessing steps, identify key components of endoscopes, and understand how to prevent equipment damage and cross contamination. The course emphasizes adherence to infection control standards, precise handling techniques, and proper preparation for clinical use.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of proper endoscope care and reprocessing in maintaining patient and equipment safety.
  • Identify the components of rigid and flexible endoscopes and recognize common vulnerabilities.
  • Differentiate between pre cleaning, manual cleaning, leak testing, high-level disinfection, and sterilization processes.
  • Perform step-by-step endoscope cleaning and reprocessing procedures through VR-based scenarios.
  • Apply appropriate detergents, enzymatic solutions, and disinfectants used for endoscope reprocessing.
  • Follow safety standards, PPE requirements, and infection control protocols specific to endoscopic equipment.
  • Recognize factors that impact endoscope longevity and cleaning efficacy, including water quality, equipment handling, and storage methods.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Endoscope care training for CSTs focusing on safe handling and proper cleaning techniques

Workforce Development

Endoscope care training covering reprocessing steps for sterile processing technicians

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare CSTs to uphold the highest levels of patient safety through meticulous endoscope handling and care as part of a comprehensive sterile processing technician training course. This microcredential strengthens learners’ ability to follow precise reprocessing standards, prevent damage to sensitive equipment, and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations.

Endoscope Handling & Care
Engage in VR-based scenarios to practice safe handling, component identification, and the correct sequence for pre-cleaning and transporting endoscopes immediately after use.
Cleaning, Leak Testing & Reprocessing Procedures +
Explore interactive modules that demonstrate manual cleaning, leak testing, inspection, high level disinfection, and sterilization workflows. Learners understand how each step supports infection prevention and equipment integrity.
Detergents, Disinfectants & Chemical Solutions +
Learn how to select and apply appropriate enzymatic cleaners, detergents, and high-level disinfectants based on endoscope type, level of contamination, and manufacturer guidelines.
Safety, Compliance & Storage +
Apply PPE use, infection control practices, and proper drying and storage techniques to maintain endoscope safety and readiness for use. Understand workflow principles that prevent cross-contamination and equipment damage.

By completing this microcredential, learners will gain the skills and confidence to care for, clean, and maintain endoscopes safely and effectively in accordance with industry best practices and patient safety standards.
