Endoscope and its Care
About the Course:
The Endoscope and Its Care microcredential equips learners with essential knowledge and hands-on skills for the safe handling, cleaning, and maintenance of both rigid and flexible endoscopes. Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice proper reprocessing steps, identify key components of endoscopes, and understand how to prevent equipment damage and cross contamination. The course emphasizes adherence to infection control standards, precise handling techniques, and proper preparation for clinical use.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the importance of proper endoscope care and reprocessing in maintaining patient and equipment safety.
- Identify the components of rigid and flexible endoscopes and recognize common vulnerabilities.
- Differentiate between pre cleaning, manual cleaning, leak testing, high-level disinfection, and sterilization processes.
- Perform step-by-step endoscope cleaning and reprocessing procedures through VR-based scenarios.
- Apply appropriate detergents, enzymatic solutions, and disinfectants used for endoscope reprocessing.
- Follow safety standards, PPE requirements, and infection control protocols specific to endoscopic equipment.
- Recognize factors that impact endoscope longevity and cleaning efficacy, including water quality, equipment handling, and storage methods.
Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
