About the Course:

The Endoscope Care & Cleaning microcredential equips learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely clean, dry, and inspect endoscopes in sterile processing environments.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice preparing the cleaning solution, washing the endoscope using the appropriate chemical mixture, drying the equipment with a sponge, and performing a final inspection to verify its condition and readiness for further processing.

The course emphasizes proper cleaning techniques, safe chemical handling, thorough drying, equipment inspection, and infection prevention practices to help maintain endoscope quality and patient safety.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of proper endoscope care and cleaning.
  • Identify the equipment and supplies required for endoscope care.
  • Prepare the appropriate chemical cleaning solution according to established procedures.
  • Perform proper washing and cleaning of the endoscope.
  • Inspect the endoscope for visible damage, abnormalities, or remaining contamination.
  • Follow appropriate infection prevention and safety practices throughout the procedure.
  • Document or report inspection findings according to facility procedures.

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

Workforce Development

Sterile storage shelf cleaning and disinfection training

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare Central Sterile Technicians with practical skills required for the proper care of endoscopes. This microcredential strengthens cleaning, chemical handling, drying, inspection, equipment handling, and infection prevention skills through immersive VR-based learning.

Endoscope Preparation and Cleaning Solution
Learn to prepare the endoscope and required supplies before cleaning. Learners practice mixing the appropriate cleaning chemical according to established procedures and safely handling the prepared solution.
Endoscope Washing Procedure+
Engage in VR-based scenarios to practice washing the endoscope using the prepared chemical solution. Learners develop proper cleaning techniques while ensuring the equipment is thoroughly cleaned and handled safely.
Endoscope Drying+
Practice drying the cleaned endoscope using a sponge and appropriate techniques. Learners understand the importance of thorough drying in preventing moisture-related contamination and preparing the equipment for further processing.
Endoscope Inspection and Condition Verification+
Learn to visually check the endoscope after cleaning and drying. Learners practice identifying visible damage, abnormalities, or remaining contamination and determining whether the endoscope is in suitable condition for further processing.
Safety and Infection Prevention+
Apply appropriate PPE, chemical handling, cleaning, and infection prevention practices throughout endoscope care. Learners reinforce safe equipment handling and procedures that support quality sterile processing operations.

By completing this microcredential, learners will gain the practical skills needed to clean, dry, and inspect endoscopes safely, supporting proper equipment care, infection prevention, and readiness for further processing in sterile processing environments.

Apply PPE use, infection control practices, and proper unloading and transport techniques after cycle
completion. Understand workflow principles that prevent contamination, packaging compromise, and
handling errors.
