Icons representing a four-step workflow: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement

About the Course:

The Endoscope Cleaning, Disinfection & Sterilization microcredential equips learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely inspect, clean, disinfect, process, store, and manage flexible and rigid endoscopes in healthcare settings. Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice identifying endoscope components, performing pre-cleaning and cleaning procedures, inspecting for damage, and following standardized processing workflows.

The course emphasizes endoscope identification, point-of-use treatment, manual cleaning, inspection, high-level disinfection or sterilization, drying and storage, quality checks, and proper documentation to support infection prevention and patient safety.

For broader endoscope handling and care, also explore our endoscope care and handling training.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of proper endoscope processing in preventing healthcare-associated infections.
  • Identify major components, types, and accessories of flexible and rigid endoscopes.
  • Differentiate between cleaning, disinfection, high-level disinfection, and sterilization requirements for endoscopic devices.
  • Perform step-by-step endoscope cleaning, inspection, and processing procedures using VR-based scenarios.
  • Apply proper handling, drying, storage, and transportation techniques to maintain endoscope integrity.
  • Follow infection control guidelines, manufacturer instructions, and regulatory standards related to endoscope processing.
  • Recognize errors such as inadequate cleaning, damaged components, improper drying, incorrect storage, and processing failures.

Strengthen your cleaning and decontamination skills for safer reusable device processing.

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

Endoscope cleaning and disinfection training for sterile processing technicians

Workforce Development

High-level disinfection and safe endoscope processing training

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare Sterile Processing Technicians to safely process, inspect, and manage endoscopes while following strict infection prevention and quality standards. This microcredential strengthens learners’ ability to reduce contamination risks, identify processing errors, protect equipment integrity, and support safe patient care operations.

Endoscope Identification & Components
Engage in VR-based scenarios to identify flexible and rigid endoscopes, understand their components and functions, recognize accessories, and determine the appropriate processing requirements for different devices.
Cleaning & Decontamination+
Explore interactive modules that demonstrate point-of-use treatment, leak testing, manual cleaning, flushing, brushing, rinsing, and other essential steps required to effectively remove contaminants before further processing.
Inspection, Disinfection & Sterilization+
Learn how to inspect endoscopes for damage, verify cleanliness, perform appropriate high-level disinfection or sterilization procedures, and confirm processing effectiveness before the device is released for use.
Drying, Storage & Quality Control+
Practice proper drying, handling, storage, transportation, documentation, and quality verification procedures to maintain processed endoscopes and prevent recontamination.

By completing this microcredential, learners will gain the skills and confidence to identify, clean, inspect, process, store, and manage endoscopes while following infection prevention and industry standards to support safe, effective, and efficient sterile processing operations.
