About the Course:

This Electric Component Diagnostics microcredential equips technicians with the skills to diagnose and service critical electric components in hybrid and electric vehicles (HEVs/EVs). Learners will explore diagnostics for motors, battery packs, and high-voltage systems, with special emphasis on milli-ohm testing, battery pack fault modes, and BMS error detection. Through VR simulations, learners will practice safe diagnostics and replacement procedures for high-voltage batteries and associated components.

Learning Objectives:

  • Diagnose electric motor issues such as fault codes, torque imbalance, and rotor defects.
  • Perform milli-ohm diagnostics to identify high-resistance faults in battery connections and components.
  • Detect battery pack failures including cell imbalance, high resistance, and temperature deviations.
  • Safely replace faulty hybrid/EV batteries following OEM and safety guidelines.
  • Diagnose Battery Management System (BMS) errors, including state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH), and communication faults.
  • Inspect and test high-voltage cables and connectors for continuity, insulation, and safety compliance.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Hybrid electric vehicle course on battery, motor and high voltage diagnostics

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare technicians to work safely and effectively with high-voltage electric vehicle systems. This microcredential emphasizes practical diagnostic methods, advanced test equipment, and VR-based fault simulations.

Electric Motor Diagnostics
Develop the ability to troubleshoot torque imbalance, rotor issues, and motor fault codes using scan tools and test procedures.
Battery Fault Identification +
Use VR scenarios and diagnostic equipment to identify cell imbalance, temperature deviations, and resistance build-up within battery packs.
Milli-Ohm and High-Voltage Testing +
Gain experience with milli-ohm meters to detect poor connections, and perform continuity and insulation checks on high-voltage cables and connectors.
Battery Replacement and BMS Troubleshooting +
Practice safe removal and replacement of HEV/EV battery packs and learn to diagnose and resolve BMS errors that affect charging and performance.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will develop the confidence and technical skills to perform safe, accurate diagnostics and replacements on electric motors, batteries, and high-voltage components.
