About the Course:

This Milli Ohm Diagnostic microcredential trains technicians to accurately measure, analyze, and troubleshoot low-resistance electrical components within hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) systems. This course is part of our HEV technician training program, designed to build real-world diagnostic and electrical testing skills.

Learners will perform real-world diagnostic procedures including measuring milli-ohm resistance in high-current circuits, evaluating connections in battery systems, inspecting busbars, cables, and grounding points, and using precision diagnostic tools such as micro-ohm meters. The course emphasizes electrical safety, proper testing techniques, and systematic fault isolation methods to detect resistance-related issues that can lead to overheating, voltage drops, and reduced system efficiency in HEVs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the importance of milli-ohm measurements in high-current HEV electrical systems
  • Safely prepare hybrid vehicles for low-resistance diagnostics following proper isolation and lockout procedures
  • Use micro-ohm meters and precision multimeters to measure very low resistance values accurately
  • Detect abnormal resistance in cables, connectors, busbars, and grounding points
  • Inspect electrical connections for corrosion, looseness, overheating, or contamination
  • Interpret resistance readings to identify potential faults affecting system performance
  • Differentiate between acceptable and excessive resistance in HEV circuits
  • Verify proper electrical continuity and system performance after repairs

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Workforce Development

measuring low resistance using micro ohm meter in electrical circuit

At ImmerseLearn, we equip hybrid and electric vehicle technicians with advanced electrical diagnostic skills required for modern high-voltage systems. These skills align with our hybrid electric vehicle training program, helping technicians perform accurate diagnostics and real-world repairs.

This microcredential strengthens precision measurement techniques, fault detection, and electrical system analysis through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Milli Ohm Measurement Fundamentals
Learn the principles of low-resistance measurement and why milli-ohm diagnostics are critical in high-current HEV systems. Technicians develop the ability to accurately measure resistance in battery connections, cables, and conductive pathways where even small resistance changes can impact performance and safety.
Safe Diagnostic Procedures +
Practice essential safety protocols when working with high-voltage HEV systems, including proper vehicle shutdown, isolation of battery systems, and safe handling of precision diagnostic tools. Emphasis is placed on preventing electrical hazards during low-resistance testing.
Cause Identification +
Determine common causes of increased resistance such as loose connections, corrosion, oxidation, damaged conductors, improper torque, or thermal stress. Learners analyze test results to pinpoint the root cause of inefficiencies or overheating in electrical circuits.
Sensor Repair and Verification +
Apply corrective actions such as tightening connections, cleaning contact surfaces, repairing or replacing cables, and restoring proper grounding. Learners complete the process by verifying milli-ohm readings, ensuring minimal resistance across connections, and confirming optimal system performance.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the confidence and technical expertise needed to perform precise milli-ohm diagnostics, identify resistance-related faults, and maintain safe and efficient operation of hybrid electric vehicle electrical systems.
