About the Course:

This HEV Battery Replacement & Safety Procedures microcredential trains technicians to safely identify, remove, and replace defective battery modules within hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) battery systems.

Learners will perform real-world service procedures including battery pack isolation, voltage verification, module removal, installation of replacement modules, and system reassembly. The course emphasizes high-voltage safety protocols, proper use of insulated tools and PPE, and adherence to manufacturer procedures to ensure safe and effective battery servicing. Technicians will also learn to verify battery performance and system functionality after replacement to restore optimal vehicle operation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify symptoms of a faulty battery module such as reduced battery performance, warning indicators, or uneven module voltage levels
  • Safely prepare the hybrid vehicle for battery service by following high-voltage shutdown and isolation procedures
  • Use diagnostic tools to assess battery module health and identify defective modules
  • Measure battery module voltage and condition using appropriate testing equipment
  • Safely remove and replace faulty battery modules using proper tools and handling techniques
  • Inspect battery pack components including wiring, connectors, and cooling systems for damage or wear
  • Reassemble and secure the battery pack following manufacturer specifications
  • Verify proper battery operation and system performance after module replacement

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Workforce Development

measuring low resistance using micro ohm meter in electrical circuit

At ImmerseLearn, we equip hybrid and electric vehicle technicians with the critical skills required to service advanced high-voltage battery systems.

This microcredential strengthens battery diagnostics, safe handling practices, and repair procedures through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Battery Module Replacement Skills
Learn how to identify and replace faulty battery modules by analyzing diagnostic data, measuring voltage imbalances, and performing precise removal and installation procedures. Technicians gain hands-on experience in restoring battery pack integrity and performance.
High-Voltage Safety Procedures +
Practice essential safety protocols when working with HEV battery systems, including proper shutdown, electrical isolation, use of insulated PPE, and safe handling of high-voltage components to prevent electrical hazards.
Cause Identification +
Determine common causes of battery module failure such as thermal degradation, aging cells, internal short circuits, poor connections, or cooling system issues by interpreting diagnostic data and performance symptoms.
Battery Repair and Verification +
Apply corrective actions such as replacing faulty modules, securing electrical connections, and ensuring proper battery pack assembly. Learners complete the process by verifying voltage balance, confirming system functionality, and ensuring safe and reliable vehicle performance.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the confidence and technical expertise needed to safely replace faulty battery modules, restore battery system performance, and ensure reliable operation of hybrid electric vehicles.
