About the Course:

This Fastener Installation microcredential introduces manufacturing associates to the safe and correct installation, removal, and securing of mechanical fasteners commonly used in manufacturing and assembly operations. Learners will navigate an immersive virtual environment to practice selecting and wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), preparing tools, drilling pilot holes, installing fasteners, securing components, and tightening or loosening nuts using industry-standard procedures.

Throughout the course, learners will gain hands-on experience using common assembly tools such as drills, drill bits, hammers, and wrenches while understanding proper fastening techniques, tool handling practices, and workplace safety requirements. The training also emphasizes component alignment, clamp installation, torque awareness, and the importance of accurate fastener installation to ensure product quality, structural integrity, and safe manufacturing operations.

Through interactive VR-based learning, participants will build confidence in performing fastener installation tasks safely, efficiently, and accurately. By emphasizing precision, proper tool usage, PPE compliance, and quality workmanship, this microcredential prepares learners to perform common mechanical assembly operations in real-world manufacturing environments while supporting workplace safety and production standards.

Learning Objectives:

  • Select and properly wear required PPE before performing fastening operations.
  • Identify and safely use drills, drill bits, hammers, and wrenches.
  • Drill pilot holes using proper positioning and safe operating techniques.
  • Install and secure mechanical fasteners using appropriate hand tools.
  • Remove and reinstall fastener nuts following standard procedures.
  • Install metal clamps and align components correctly before fastening.
  • Apply proper tightening and loosening techniques to ensure secure assemblies.
  • Follow safe work practices while maintaining quality and assembly accuracy.

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare manufacturing associates with workplace-ready mechanical assembly skills through immersive VR learning experiences. This microcredential develops proficiency in PPE compliance, tool handling, fastener installation, component assembly, workplace safety, and quality-focused manufacturing practices while reinforcing industry-standard procedures for safe and efficient production.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Learn to properly inspect and wear essential PPE including hard hats, leather gloves, safety goggles, earplugs, and face shields before beginning fastening operations. Understand how appropriate PPE minimizes workplace hazards and supports compliance with manufacturing safety standards.
Drilling and Fastener Installation +
Develop the skills to safely operate a drill, install the correct drill bit, and create pilot holes with proper positioning and control. Learners then practice placing fasteners accurately and securing them using appropriate installation techniques to ensure reliable mechanical assemblies.
Mechanical Assembly and Tool Operation +
Gain hands-on experience using hammers and wrenches to install, remove, tighten, and loosen fasteners. Learners practice assembling components, positioning metal clamps, and completing fastening sequences while following safe tool handling procedures and maintaining assembly precision.
Quality, Accuracy, and Workplace Readiness +
Understand the importance of proper fastener alignment, secure tightening, and accurate component assembly in maintaining product quality and structural reliability. Learners complete the course with the knowledge and confidence to perform fastening tasks safely, efficiently, and according to manufacturing best practices.

By completing this microcredential, manufacturing associates will develop the practical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to safely use assembly tools, install and secure mechanical fasteners, assemble components accurately, follow workplace safety procedures, and contribute to high-quality, efficient manufacturing operations.
