About the Course:

This High-Voltage Safety & PPE for Hybrid Electric Vehicles microcredential trains technicians to understand, select, and properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working on hybrid electric vehicle systems.

Learners will practice real-world safety procedures including identifying electrical hazards, selecting appropriate PPE for high-voltage environments, inspecting protective gear, and following safe work protocols. The course emphasizes electrical safety, hazard awareness, and compliance with industry safety standards to prevent injury while servicing hybrid vehicle powertrains and high-voltage components.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify common hazards associated with hybrid electric vehicles, including high-voltage electrical risks and thermal hazards
  • Select appropriate PPE such as insulated gloves, face shields, safety glasses, and protective clothing for HEV servicing
  • Perform proper inspection of PPE for damage, wear, or contamination before use
  • Safely prepare the vehicle and workspace by following shutdown and isolation procedures
  • Demonstrate correct usage of insulated tools and PPE when working on high-voltage systems
  • Understand safety ratings and classifications of PPE used in electrical environments
  • Follow standard safety protocols to minimize risk of electric shock or injury
  • Verify safe working conditions before, during, and after service operations

Workforce Development

Measuring low resistance in electrical circuit using micro ohm meter for high-voltage safety testing

At ImmerseLearn, we equip hybrid and electric vehicle technicians with critical safety competencies required to work confidently around high-voltage systems.

This microcredential strengthens hazard awareness, PPE compliance, and safe work practices through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

PPE Selection and Usage
Learn how to identify and use the correct PPE required for different hybrid vehicle service tasks. Technicians develop the ability to match PPE to voltage levels, task complexity, and environmental conditions to ensure maximum protection.
Safety Procedures in HEV Environments +
Practice essential safety procedures including proper vehicle shutdown, battery isolation, lockout/tagout procedures, and maintaining a safe working distance from energized components.
Hazard Identification +
Understand potential risks such as electric shock, arc flash, burns, and chemical exposure. Learners will identify warning signs and unsafe conditions before beginning any service work.
PPE Inspection and Maintenance +
Develop the ability to inspect insulated gloves, tools, and protective gear for integrity and compliance. Learn proper storage, handling, and maintenance practices to ensure PPE reliability.
Safe Work Verification +
Apply safety checks before and after service tasks to ensure all systems are secure, PPE is properly used, and no hazards remain in the work environment.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the confidence and essential safety skills needed to work with hybrid electric vehicles, properly use PPE, and minimize risks associated with high-voltage automotive systems. To advance into full system diagnostics, battery servicing, and real-world repair workflows, explore our HEV Training Program.
