About the Course:

This Air Conditioner Maintenance microcredential equips students with the essential skills and knowledge to perform routine air conditioner (AC) maintenance in residential and light commercial settings. Students will learn industry-standard procedures for cleaning evaporators and condenser coils, maintaining drain systems, inspecting refrigerant lines, and verifying refrigerant charge levels. Emphasis is placed on manufacturer compliance, tool usage, and preventive maintenance practices that improve system efficiency and extend equipment life. Advance your skills further with our HVAC maintenance training program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Properly clean evaporator coils using the correct tools, cleaning agents, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Maintain and treat AC drain pans and lines to prevent blockages and biological growth.
  • Locate, clean, and maintain condensing units and outdoor coils using safe and effective methods.
  • Visually inspect refrigerant line insulation and identify missing or deteriorated sections.
  • Check refrigerant levels using pressure gauges and manufacturer charging charts to ensure optimal system performance.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Workforce Development

HVAC technician checking refrigerant pressure gauges during AC service

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare HVAC students with job-ready, hands-on skills that align with industry expectations. This microcredential is ideal for technicians and trainees looking to specialize in AC maintenance or improve service quality and reliability. You can also strengthen your expertise through our HVAC technician certification course.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Evaporator Coil Cleaning
Learn to locate indoor evaporator coils and apply the appropriate cleaner while following the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid coil damage.
Drain Pan and Line Service +
Understand how to flush condensate drain lines, clear obstructions, and apply anti-algae treatments to prevent future clogs and water damage.
Condensing Unit and Coil Cleaning +
Perform exterior unit maintenance by identifying the condenser coil, selecting the correct coil cleaner, and following safe cleaning procedures.
Refrigerant Line Inspection +
Identify missing or degraded insulation that can lead to energy losses and poor cooling performance, and learn how to properly replace it.
Refrigerant Level Testing +
Use pressure gauges to measure refrigerant charge, compare readings to manufacturer specifications, and recognize signs of overcharging or undercharging.
Safety and Compliance +
Follow HVAC safety protocols including electrical lockout, PPE usage, and handling of pressurized refrigerants.

By completing this microcredential, students will be equipped to perform core AC maintenance tasks efficiently and safely, helping improve system longevity, reduce service calls, and ensure customer satisfaction in the HVAC industry.
