About the Course:

The Infant Emergency Response & Life Support microcredential equips pharmacy technician students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to recognize infant medical emergencies and provide immediate life-saving support while following established healthcare safety protocols and emergency response procedures.

Learners will practice identifying signs of infant distress, assessing emergency situations, performing infant CPR procedures, using emergency response equipment, maintaining airway support, and following proper communication protocols while ensuring patient safety during critical emergency situations.

Through immersive VR simulations, students will engage in step-by-step infant emergency response procedures including emergency assessment, recognizing respiratory distress and cardiac arrest symptoms, initiating infant CPR cycles, using barrier devices and infant AED equipment, performing safe airway management techniques, and providing emergency support until advanced medical assistance arrives. The simulation reinforces patient safety, quick decision-making, precision, and emergency preparedness throughout the infant emergency response process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of immediate emergency response during infant medical emergencies in healthcare settings.
  • Identify common signs of infant respiratory distress, choking, cardiac arrest, and other emergency conditions.
  • Demonstrate proper infant CPR techniques following established healthcare emergency response guidelines.
  • Apply safe airway management techniques while maintaining infant patient safety during emergencies.
  • Use emergency response equipment such as barrier devices and infant AED systems appropriately.
  • Perform accurate emergency assessment and provide immediate intervention during infant critical care situations.
  • Follow established emergency communication, documentation, and escalation procedures until advanced care arrives.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

At ImmerseLearn, we empower pharmacy technician students to build confidence and competency in recognizing and responding to infant medical emergencies in healthcare environments. This microcredential strengthens emergency preparedness, clinical decision-making, patient safety awareness, procedural accuracy, communication skills, and critical life-support capabilities essential for modern healthcare practice.

Infant Emergency Assessment & Recognition
Practice identifying early warning signs of infant medical emergencies including breathing difficulty, choking, unresponsiveness, cyanosis, and cardiac arrest symptoms. Learn proper patient assessment techniques and understand when immediate emergency intervention is required while maintaining healthcare safety protocols.
Infant CPR Procedures +
Develop proper infant CPR techniques including correct hand positioning, chest compression depth, compression rhythm, and rescue breathing procedures. Reinforce the importance of performing accurate CPR cycles while maintaining circulation and oxygen delivery during infant cardiac emergencies.
Airway Management & Breathing Support +
Master safe airway management procedures by learning techniques for opening infant airways, checking breathing patterns, providing rescue breaths, and maintaining airway support during respiratory emergencies. Practice responding effectively while minimizing complications and ensuring patient safety throughout emergency intervention.
Emergency Equipment Handling +
Learn proper handling and use of emergency response equipment including CPR barrier masks, infant AED systems, emergency medical kits, and monitoring devices. Practice safe equipment application procedures while ensuring immediate and effective emergency support during critical situations.
Emergency Communication & Response Protocols +
Safely coordinate emergency response procedures by learning how to activate emergency medical systems, communicate critical patient information, escalate urgent situations to healthcare professionals, and document emergency actions according to healthcare safety standards. Practice teamwork and rapid communication during simulated emergency scenarios.
Safety Procedures & Performance Review +
Understand the importance of patient safety, infection prevention, emergency preparedness, procedural accuracy, and compliance with established infant emergency response protocols. Participate in guided VR performance reviews that reinforce healthcare safety standards, emergency intervention procedures, and professional patient care practices.

By completing this microcredential, pharmacy technician students will gain the technical confidence, emergency response knowledge, and infant life-support proficiency required to effectively recognize and respond to infant medical emergencies while ensuring patient safety, rapid intervention, proper emergency escalation, and quality care in professional healthcare environments.
