About the Course:

This Insulated Rescue Hook for HEV Emergencies microcredential trains HEV technicians to understand the purpose and safe use of an insulated retrieval hook during high-voltage electrical emergencies.

Learners will understand how an insulated retrieval hook can be used to move a person away from an energized electrical source when direct contact could expose the rescuer to electrical shock. Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice recognizing an electrical emergency, maintaining a safe position, using the insulated hook appropriately, and initiating the appropriate emergency response.

The course emphasizes high-voltage safety, electrical hazard awareness, appropriate use of insulated rescue equipment, and emergency response procedures. Learners will also understand the importance of avoiding direct contact with a person who may still be energized and following established emergency and rescue protocols.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify an insulated retrieval hook and understand its purpose in HEV environments.
  • Explain how an insulated retrieval hook helps protect rescuers during electrical emergencies.
  • Recognize situations where a person may be in contact with an energized high-voltage source.
  • Identify the hazards associated with approaching an electrically energized person.
  • Maintain a safe position while preparing to use insulated rescue equipment.
  • Demonstrate the basic use of an insulated retrieval hook to move an affected person away from an electrical hazard.
  • Follow appropriate emergency response and high-voltage safety procedures.
  • Recognize the importance of contacting emergency services and qualified personnel during an electrical incident.
  • Avoid direct contact with an affected person until the electrical hazard has been controlled.
  • Support appropriate post-incident reporting and safety procedures.

This HEV Motor Types & Fundamentals training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.

Insulated Rescue Hook for Emergencies Training for HEV Technicians

HEV electric motor and hybrid powertrain training

At ImmerseLearn, we equip HEV technicians with essential high-voltage emergency response skills required for safer vehicle service environments. This microcredential develops electrical hazard recognition, emergency response awareness, insulated rescue equipment handling, and high-voltage safety practices through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Insulated Retrieval Hook Fundamentals
Learn about the construction, purpose, and safety features of insulated retrieval hooks. Learners understand how the insulated design helps reduce the risk of electrical shock to the rescuer when responding to an electrical emergency.
High-Voltage Electrical Emergency Recognition +
Explore common emergency situations involving high-voltage electrical systems. Learners practice identifying when a person may be in contact with an energized component and recognize the risks of approaching or touching the affected individual directly.
Safe Use of the Insulated Retrieval Hook +
Engage in immersive VR scenarios to practice maintaining a safe position, handling the insulated retrieval hook correctly, and using it to move an affected person away from the electrical hazard without making direct contact.
Emergency Response and Rescue Procedures +
Practice the appropriate response to a high-voltage electrical emergency, including maintaining personal safety, using available insulated rescue equipment, activating emergency assistance, and following established workplace rescue procedures.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain practical knowledge of insulated retrieval hooks and their role in high-voltage electrical emergency response. Learners will develop essential competencies in electrical hazard recognition, safe rescue equipment use, emergency response, and high-voltage safety practices required when working around HEV electrical systems.
