About the Course:

The Insulin Administration & Syringe Safety Techniques microcredential equips pharmacy technician students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills to safely prepare, handle, and administer insulin using proper injection and syringe safety techniques. Learners will explore medication preparation standards, safe injection practices, dosing accuracy, infection control, and sharps safety protocols that support safe and effective diabetes care.

Through interactive VR simulations, students will practice real-world insulin administration workflows including vial preparation, syringe handling, dose measurement, injection site preparation, and safe disposal of sharps while strengthening precision, safety awareness, and patient support skills. This hands-on training aligns with our Pharmacy Technician Training, strengthening real-world medication safety and administration skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of safe insulin administration and its impact on patient safety and glycemic control.
  • Identify proper insulin handling, storage, and preparation procedures.
  • Understand infection control and syringe safety protocols during medication administration.
  • Demonstrate correct insulin dose preparation, air removal, and syringe handling techniques.
  • Recognize safe injection site preparation and proper subcutaneous injection methods.
  • Apply safe sharps disposal, documentation, and reporting procedures.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
