Learn, assess, evaluate, and implement training process

About the Course:

This Megohmmeter Testing for Solar PV Installations microcredential trains technicians to safely perform insulation resistance testing on photovoltaic (PV) systems using a megohmmeter. Learners will develop the skills needed to verify insulation integrity, identify electrical faults, and ensure system safety and compliance before system energization.

Technicians will practice real-world procedures including megohmmeter setup, selecting appropriate test voltages, isolating circuits, testing PV strings and components, and interpreting insulation resistance readings. The course emphasizes safe testing practices, accurate diagnostics, and adherence to industry standards to prevent electrical failures and improve system reliability.

Learners will gain hands-on experience identifying insulation breakdowns, moisture-related issues, damaged cables, and grounding faults while ensuring PV systems operate safely and efficiently.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the purpose of insulation resistance testing in PV systems
  • Identify components and functions of a megohmmeter
  • Follow proper safety procedures before performing insulation testing
  • Set up and operate a megohmmeter correctly
  • Perform insulation resistance testing on PV strings, cables, and electrical components
  • Interpret megohmmeter readings and identify abnormal results
  • Detect insulation faults, moisture intrusion, and damaged wiring
  • Verify compliance with electrical safety and installation standards

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
