About the Course:

The Neurology & Mental Health Support microcredential introduces learners to the fundamentals of neurological health and mental well-being in clinical care. Through immersive VR simulations and interactive scenarios, learners explore the nervous system’s structure and function, common neurological disorders, and essential strategies for supporting patients experiencing mental health challenges. Emphasis is placed on effective communication, empathy, safety, and holistic patient care core competencies for Certified Medical Assistants, aligned with clinical medical assistant certification standards, working in multidisciplinary healthcare environments.

The training emphasizes active listening, professional tone, and accurate documentation within electronic health records (EHR). By interacting with realistic virtual patients powered by AI, learners gain the confidence, critical thinking, and professionalism needed to communicate effectively in real-world clinical settings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the major components and functions of the nervous system.
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of common neurological and mental health disorders.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and patient support strategies for individuals with neurological or psychological conditions.
  • Apply safety, confidentiality, and infection control measures in neurological and mental health care settings.
  • Document observations, patient interactions, and care interventions accurately and ethically.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Clinical neurology and mental health support training for medical assistants

Workforce Development

Clinical medical assistant providing neurology and mental health patient support

At ImmerseLearn, we equip healthcare learners to deliver compassionate and informed support for patients with neurological and mental health needs. This microcredential strengthens core skills in patient interaction, observation, documentation, and interprofessional collaboration—essential for hands-on medical assistant training and promoting mental wellness and neurological care across healthcare settings.

Understanding the Nervous System
Explore the structure and function of the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves in an interactive 3D environment. Learn how neurological signals control body systems and behaviors.
Recognizing Neurological and Mental Health Conditions +
Engage in realistic VR scenarios depicting conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, anxiety, and depression. Learn to identify symptoms, provide patient reassurance, and assist in preliminary assessments.
Communication and Patient Support +
Develop empathy-driven communication skills through immersive simulations. Practice active listening, patient-centered dialogue, and techniques for de-escalating emotional distress in clinical settings.
Safety and Ethical Practice +
Understand infection control, confidentiality, and patient safety standards when providing neurological and mental health support. Learn how to manage emergencies and maintain professional boundaries.
Documentation and Care Coordination +
Gain hands-on experience documenting neurological observations, mental health notes, and patient progress using standardized clinical forms and digital systems.

By completing this microcredential, learners will gain the knowledge and confidence to support patients with neurological or mental health conditions effectively. They will be equipped to assist healthcare professionals in delivering compassionate, safe, and high-quality care that promotes both neurological health and emotional well-being.
