About the Course:

The Oral Formulation - Mouthwash Preparation microcredential equips pharmacy technician students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills to accurately compound and prepare mouthwash solutions while maintaining safety, precision, and regulatory compliance.

Learners will explore standardized compounding procedures, including measuring liquid ingredients, proper mixing techniques, maintaining hygiene, and ensuring accurate final volume and labeling. These foundational skills are critical in real-world pharmacy settings and are further developed in our Online Pharmacy Technician Training Course

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will engage in real-world scenarios such as measuring peppermint water, performing proper mixing techniques, transferring solutions using funnels and graduated cylinders, and adjusting volumes using distilled water. These simulations reinforce precision, coordination, and safe handling of pharmaceutical preparations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of accurate compounding in ensuring patient safety and product effectiveness.
  • Identify equipment used in liquid preparation such as volumetric flasks, funnels, and graduated cylinders.
  • Demonstrate correct measurement and transfer of liquid ingredients.
  • Apply proper mixing techniques to ensure uniform solutions.
  • Maintain hygiene and prevent contamination during compounding.
  • Perform accurate volume adjustments and final product transfer.
  • Document preparation steps and ensure proper labeling and storage.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Workforce Development

Measuring and mixing liquid ingredients for mouthwash preparation in pharmacy training

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare pharmacy technician students to perform compounding tasks with precision and confidence. This microcredential strengthens attention to detail, procedural accuracy, coordination, and compliance skills ensuring learners are ready for real-world pharmacy environments.

Mouthwash Preparation Training
Engage in VR simulations that guide learners through step-by-step preparation of mouthwash solutions. Students will practice measuring peppermint water, transferring liquids into volumetric flasks, securely sealing containers, and performing controlled mixing techniques to achieve a homogeneous solution.
Mixing & Measurement Techniques +
Develop hands-on skills in proper mixing using coordinated hand movements to ensure uniform distribution of ingredients. Learners will also practice transferring prepared solutions into graduated cylinders and adjusting final volumes using distilled water to achieve precise measurements (e.g., 100 mL).
Transfer & Bottling Process +
Gain experience in safely transferring prepared mouthwash using funnels into clean containers. Learners will understand the importance of minimizing spillage, avoiding contamination, and ensuring accurate transfer into final storage bottles followed by secure sealing.
Hygiene & Safety Practices +
Understand the importance of maintaining cleanliness throughout the compounding process. Learners will follow best practices such as using clean equipment, avoiding cross-contamination, and handling materials safely to maintain product integrity.
Documentation & Labeling +
Practice recording preparation details, including ingredients, quantities, and final volume. Learners will also understand proper labeling standards to ensure traceability, compliance, and safe usage of the prepared mouthwash.
Operational Accuracy & Patient Safety +
Recognize the critical role pharmacy technicians play in compounding safe and effective products. Learners will build confidence in executing precise preparation steps while maintaining quality, consistency, and compliance with pharmacy standards.

By completing this microcredential, pharmacy technician students will gain the practical skills and confidence to accurately prepare mouthwash solutions ensuring patient safety, product quality, and compliance with pharmacy compounding standards in real-world settings.
