About the Course:

The Patient-Specific Emulsion Compounding microcredential equips pharmacy technician students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills to safely prepare customized emulsion medications using proper compounding and safety techniques. Learners will explore ingredient measurement standards, compounding accuracy, emulsification principles, contamination prevention, and pharmacy compounding safety protocols that support safe and effective patient-specific medication preparation. This hands-on compounding experience aligns with our Pharmacy Technician Training Course, reinforcing real-world medication preparation and safety skills.

Through interactive VR simulations, students will practice real-world emulsion compounding workflows including ingredient measurement, mortar and pestle mixing techniques, emulsion formation, volume adjustment, homogenization using magnetic stir methods, transfer into dispensing containers, and final product verification while strengthening precision, aseptic awareness, and medication safety skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of accurate patient-specific compounding and its impact on medication safety and effectiveness.
  • Identify proper handling, storage, and preparation procedures for compounding ingredients.
  • Understand contamination prevention, glove hygiene, and workspace disinfection protocols during compounding.
  • Demonstrate correct measurement, weighing, and mixing techniques for emulsion preparation.
  • Recognize proper emulsification methods using mortar and pestle and controlled oil incorporation.
  • Apply safe transfer, labeling, documentation, and pharmacist verification procedures.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
