About the Course:
Perineal Care & Patient Hygiene is an essential patient care skill for Nursing Assistants responsible for helping patients maintain personal hygiene and comfort. This microcredential introduces learners to proper perineal care techniques used to keep the genital and surrounding areas clean while supporting patient dignity and privacy.
Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice maintaining patient privacy, performing hand hygiene, using gloves and a mask, verifying patient identity, preparing warm water and cleaning supplies, positioning the patient, and performing gentle perineal and buttock cleansing. The procedure also includes rinsing, drying, chuck pad disposal, and safely repositioning and covering the patient.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the importance of proper perineal care in maintaining hygiene and patient comfort.
- Demonstrate appropriate hand hygiene, PPE use, and privacy practices.
- Verify patient identity and explain the procedure clearly.
- Prepare the required water, washcloths, soap, towels, and other supplies.
- Position the patient appropriately for perineal care.
- Demonstrate proper cleansing techniques for the perineal and surrounding areas.
- Apply gentle rinsing and drying techniques to promote patient comfort.
- Safely dispose of used washcloths and contaminated materials.
- Clean the buttock area using appropriate techniques.
- Complete the procedure while maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and safety.
This Female Catheter Care training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.
