Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)
About the Course:
This microcredential introduces technicians to the design, components, and operation of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). Learners will explore the dual power systems that allow PHEVs to operate on both electric and combustion energy, analyze key components, and understand system integration for optimal performance. Using VR simulations and hands-on demonstrations, learners will interact with real-world PHEV systems to understand how design, energy management, and component functionality work together as part of a comprehensive Hybrid Electric Vehicle Course.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the design principles and powertrain architecture of PHEVs.
- Identify the major components of PHEV systems, including batteries, electric motors, and internal combustion engines.
- Explain how plug-in charging systems extend vehicle range and efficiency.
- Describe the interaction between electric drive and mechanical powertrain components.
- Recognize differences between hybrid and plug-in hybrid configurations.
- Apply safety protocols when inspecting or servicing PHEV systems.
Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.
