About the Course:

This microcredential introduces technicians to the design, components, and operation of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). Learners will explore the dual power systems that allow PHEVs to operate on both electric and combustion energy, analyze key components, and understand system integration for optimal performance. Using VR simulations and hands-on demonstrations, learners will interact with real-world PHEV systems to understand how design, energy management, and component functionality work together as part of a comprehensive Hybrid Electric Vehicle Course.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the design principles and powertrain architecture of PHEVs.
  • Identify the major components of PHEV systems, including batteries, electric motors, and internal combustion engines.
  • Explain how plug-in charging systems extend vehicle range and efficiency.
  • Describe the interaction between electric drive and mechanical powertrain components.
  • Recognize differences between hybrid and plug-in hybrid configurations.
  • Apply safety protocols when inspecting or servicing PHEV systems.

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Hybrid electric vehicle course on plug-in hybrid components and energy management

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare technicians to work confidently with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles by combining interactive digital training with practical understanding. This microcredential focuses on real-world system familiarity, energy management, and safe diagnostic practice.

VR Design Exploration
Use immersive VR simulations to explore the design and energy flow in PHEV powertrains, including charging systems, energy storage, and regenerative braking processes.
VR Component Identification +
Interact with full-scale 3D PHEV models to locate and identify key components such as electric motors, inverters, converters, batteries, and engine systems.
Hands-on Demonstration Activities +
Apply learning in simulated service environments to understand charging interfaces, energy transfer between systems, and hybrid operation modes.
Safety and Operational Awareness +
Learn and apply correct safety practices for high-voltage systems and hybrid-specific components to ensure safe service procedures.

By completing this microcredential, learners will gain foundational knowledge and hands-on familiarity with PHEV design, components, and operation, preparing them for advanced hybrid and EV diagnostic training in our Hybrid Vehicle technician course.
