Four-step competency-based learning model: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement.

About the Course:

This Pole-Mounted Solar System Installation microcredential, part of the PV course series, trains technicians to safely install and secure pole-mounted photovoltaic (PV) systems used in residential, commercial, agricultural, and remote power applications.

Learners will practice real-world installation techniques including site assessment, pole positioning, foundation preparation, mounting structure assembly, module rack installation, system alignment, tilt angle adjustment, structural verification, and final installation inspection. The course emphasizes installation safety, structural integrity, manufacturer compliance, and proper mounting procedures to ensure reliable PV system performance.

Technicians will gain hands-on experience in installing pole-mounted solar systems, minimizing installation errors, ensuring proper structural support, and maximizing long-term energy production. These practical skills align closely with advanced competencies taught in the PV Installer Professional Program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the fundamentals of pole-mounted PV systems
  • Identify pole mounting components and structural hardware
  • Perform site assessments and installation planning
  • Evaluate foundation and structural support requirements
  • Install and secure poles according to project specifications
  • Assemble mounting structures and module support frames
  • Apply proper alignment, tilt, and orientation procedures
  • Inspect and verify installation quality and system readiness

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Hands-on pole mounted solar system installation training for solar technicians

At ImmerseLearn, we equip solar technicians with practical installation skills required for modern PV systems. This microcredential complements our Solar Training Program by strengthening technical accuracy, installation efficiency, structural assessment capabilities, and safety awareness through immersive VR-based learning.

Pole Mount System Fundamentals
Learn how pole-mounted solar systems provide elevated support structures for PV arrays while optimizing sun exposure and site utilization. Technicians develop an understanding of pole mount design principles, structural requirements, and factors affecting system performance and durability.
Pole Structure Assembly and Installation +
Practice assembling mounting frames, positioning ballast trays, and installing ballast blocks according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements. Technicians learn proper alignment, spacing, fastening, and support techniques for reliable system installation.
Safe Work Practices +
Practice essential installation safety procedures including excavation safety, lifting techniques, power tool operation, material handling, fall prevention, and safe movement around installation equipment. Emphasis is placed on preventing accidents while maintaining installation quality and efficiency.
Installation Verification and Compliance +
Apply inspection and verification procedures to confirm proper pole placement, structural integrity, system alignment, tilt settings, and compliance with manufacturer guidelines and industry standards. Learners complete the process by validating installation readiness before PV module commissioning.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the confidence and technical expertise needed to safely install pole-mounted solar systems while ensuring structural stability, proper alignment, regulatory compliance, and long-lasting photovoltaic system performance.
