About the Course:

This Routine HEV Inspection microcredential trains technicians to perform systematic inspections of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) to ensure safe operation, reliability, and optimal performance.

Learners will practice real-world inspection procedures including evaluating high-voltage components, checking battery systems, inspecting electrical connections, assessing cooling systems, and identifying signs of wear or damage. The course emphasizes preventive maintenance, safety compliance, and accurate documentation to support efficient vehicle operation and reduce unexpected failures. These inspection skills also provide a strong foundation for hybrid vehicle repair training focused on diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system performance.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key components of hybrid electric vehicles that require routine inspection
  • Perform visual inspections of high-voltage cables, connectors, and electrical components
  • Assess hybrid battery condition and identify common signs of deterioration or damage
  • Inspect cooling systems associated with batteries, inverters, and power electronics
  • Evaluate vehicle warning indicators, diagnostic information, and system status displays
  • Check fluid levels, filters, belts, and other components related to hybrid system performance
  • Follow manufacturer-recommended inspection procedures and safety guidelines
  • Document inspection findings and recommend appropriate maintenance actions

Course delivered via LMS and requires an Oculus VR headset for hands-on VR simulations.

Workforce Development

Technician measuring electrical resistance during hybrid vehicle electrical system inspection

At ImmerseLearn, we equip hybrid and electric vehicle technicians with the inspection skills required to maintain HEV safety, reliability, and performance. This microcredential strengthens preventive maintenance practices, diagnostic awareness, and inspection accuracy through immersive VR-based learning.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

HEV System Inspection
Learn how to systematically inspect critical hybrid vehicle components including high-voltage systems, power electronics, electric motors, and battery assemblies. Technicians develop the skills needed to identify potential issues before they lead to system failures.
Battery and Electrical System Assessment +
Practice evaluating battery condition, electrical connections, wiring integrity, and component security. Learners gain experience recognizing early warning signs of wear, corrosion, overheating, or damage that may affect vehicle performance.
Cooling System Evaluation +
Understand how battery and power electronics cooling systems support safe and efficient operation. Technicians will inspect coolant levels, hoses, pumps, and related components to ensure proper thermal management.
Preventive Maintenance Inspection +
Develop the ability to inspect routine maintenance items such as tires, brakes, fluid levels, filters, and auxiliary systems that contribute to overall vehicle safety and performance.
Inspection Documentation and Reporting +
Apply proper documentation procedures to record inspection results, identify deficiencies, and communicate maintenance recommendations. Learn how accurate reporting supports vehicle reliability and service planning.

By completing this microcredential, technicians will gain the confidence and practical skills needed to perform routine HEV inspections, identify potential issues early, and maintain the safety, reliability, and performance of hybrid electric vehicles. Technicians looking to expand their expertise in diagnostics, maintenance, and troubleshooting can further develop their skills through professional HEV technician training.
