About the Course:

This Single-Axis Solar Tracker Assembly & Installation microcredential introduces PV installers and solar technicians to the assembly, installation, and basic commissioning of single-axis solar tracking systems used in utility-scale photovoltaic plants.

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice positioning and securing tracker components, including guard rails, motor sledges, motors, torque tubes, span joints, brackets, damper mounts, module rails, dampers, and controller assemblies. Learners will also become familiar with installing fasteners, using impact drivers and torque wrenches, aligning heavy components, and completing designated wire and connector installations.

The course emphasizes component identification, structural assembly, proper fastener installation, safe handling of heavy components, tool selection, and following established installation procedures. Learners will also explore the tracker controller and smart panel assembly to understand how these components form part of the completed tracking system.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the major components of a single-axis solar tracking system.
  • Explain the purpose of tracker structural components, including torque tubes, motor sledges, brackets, span joints, and module rails.
  • Install screws, nuts, and bolts according to the prescribed assembly sequence.
  • Understand safe handling requirements for heavy components using approved lifting equipment.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of impact drivers and torque wrenches during assembly.
  • Position the tracker controller and smart panel in their designated mounting locations.
  • Complete designated connector and wire installations according to the provided procedure.
  • Understand the importance of installation checks and following manufacturer specifications before commissioning.

To build on this structural work, see our ground-mounted PV structures training, or build toward certification with our PV Installer Professional program.

This Single-Axis Solar Tracker Assembly & Installation training is delivered through our LMS and is available as both web-based and immersive VR training.

Single-Axis Solar Tracker Assembly & Installation Training for PV Technicians

PV technicians assembling a single-axis solar tracker at a utility-scale solar site

At ImmerseLearn, we equip PV installers and solar technicians with practical skills for assembling and preparing single-axis solar tracking systems in utility-scale solar plants. This microcredential strengthens component identification, structural assembly, fastener installation, tool handling, heavy-component safety awareness, and tracker system familiarization through web-based and immersive VR learning.

Tracker Components and Structural Assembly −
Explore the main structural components of a single-axis tracker, including guard rails, motor sledges, torque tubes, span joints, brackets, damper mounts, and module rails. Learners practice positioning components at designated mounting locations and securing them using the prescribed fasteners.
Fastener Installation and Tool Handling +
Practice installing screws, nuts, and bolts at designated attachment points. Learners develop familiarity with impact drivers, screwdrivers, wrenches, and torque wrenches while reinforcing correct tool selection, fastener alignment, and adherence to specified tightening requirements.
Motor, Torque Tube, and Drive Assembly +
Learn how the motor sledge, motor, and torque tube fit into the tracker assembly. Learners practice positioning the motor assembly, aligning the torque tube with its mounting points, and securing associated components while understanding the importance of correct orientation and safe handling.
Damper, Bracket, and Module Rail Installation +
Practice attaching dampers, brackets, span joints, and module rails to the tracker structure. Learners develop an understanding of how these components contribute to structural support and prepare the tracker assembly to receive the solar modules.
Safe Handling of Heavy Components +
Understand the hazards associated with lifting and positioning heavy components such as motor sledges and torque tubes. Learners reinforce the importance of approved lifting equipment, qualified operators, controlled movement, correct alignment, and keeping personnel clear of suspended or moving loads.
Installation Verification and Commissioning Awareness +
Develop an understanding of the importance of checking component placement, fastener security, structural alignment, and completed connections. Learners recognize that final commissioning and functional testing must follow the manufacturer's procedures and the requirements of the installed tracker system.

By completing this microcredential, learners will develop practical knowledge and simulated experience in single-axis tracker installation and assembly. Learners will be able to identify major tracker components, position and secure structural assemblies, use installation tools appropriately, understand safe heavy-component handling, install designated controller components, and complete the connections demonstrated in the simulation. These skills support accurate tracker assembly and preparation for subsequent commissioning activities in utility-scale solar installations.
