Unoccupied Bed Making
About the Course:
Unoccupied Bed Making is a foundational patient care skill for Nursing Assistants working in hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and other healthcare settings. In this microcredential, learners are introduced to the purpose and clinical importance of preparing an empty patient bed, ensuring a clean, safe, comfortable, and organized environment that supports infection prevention, patient comfort, and readiness for admission or continued care.
Through immersive VR simulations, learners gain hands-on experience performing a complete standard empty bed-making procedure while following proper patient care protocols, hand hygiene practices, equipment preparation, linen handling techniques, infection prevention measures, and proper body mechanics. The course emphasizes efficiency, cleanliness, wrinkle-free linen application, and maintaining professional healthcare standards throughout the procedure.
Learners will practice sanitizing their hands, preparing the bed, correctly placing the bottom sheet, draw sheet, chuck pad, top sheet, blanket, pillow, and pillowcase while ensuring proper alignment and neat folding techniques. The course reinforces safe linen handling, organized workflow, ergonomic movement, and adherence to healthcare best practices essential for maintaining patient-ready beds in clinical environments.
