USP <797> Hand Hygiene Procedures Training for Pharmacy Technicians

Professional conduct and patient confidentiality training for pharmacy technicians

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare pharmacy technician students with essential hand hygiene skills required in sterile compounding and clinical environments. This microcredential strengthens handwashing technique, contamination prevention, proper hand drying, hand sanitization, glove application, and safe preparation for sterile procedures through immersive VR-based learning.

Handwashing Preparation and Soap Application −
Learn to wet hands thoroughly under running water and apply soap correctly. Learners practice creating a lather and preparing their hands for systematic cleansing.
Cleaning All Hand Surfaces +
Practice cleaning the palms, backs of the hands, spaces between the fingers, backs of the fingers, and knuckles. Learners also focus on the thumbs, fingertips, and areas beneath the nails to ensure thorough handwashing.
Rinsing and Proper Hand Drying +
Learn to rinse hands thoroughly and follow the demonstrated water-flow technique. Learners practice drying each hand completely with a sterile single-use towel, using the towel to turn off the faucet, and disposing of it appropriately.
Hand Sanitization and Glove Application +
Practice applying hand sanitizer and rubbing the hands together until completely dry. Learners then put on gloves in preparation for patient care or sterile procedures, following the demonstrated sequence.
Contamination Prevention and Safe Practices +
Reinforce the importance of cleaning every hand surface, avoiding direct contact with the faucet after washing, using appropriate drying materials, and following established hand hygiene procedures to help maintain a safe sterile compounding environment.

By completing this microcredential, pharmacy technician students will develop practical skills in proper handwashing, hand drying, hand sanitization, and glove application. Learners will be able to follow a systematic hand hygiene procedure, minimize contamination risks, handle drying materials appropriately, and prepare their hands for sterile compounding activities according to established procedures.
