About the Course:

This USP <797> Laminar Airflow Hood Cleaning & Disinfection microcredential equips pharmacy technician learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely clean and disinfect horizontal laminar airflow hoods used for sterile compounding. 

Through immersive VR simulations, learners will practice proper PPE use, cleanroom entry, hood preparation, supply preparation, sterile water cleaning, 70% IPA disinfection, proper wiping techniques, air drying, and cleaning documentation. The course emphasizes aseptic technique, contamination prevention, proper cleaning sequences, and adherence to sterile compounding requirements. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the importance of proper cleaning and disinfection in sterile compounding environments.  
  • Identify cleaning requirements for USP <797> and USP <800> compounding areas. 
  • Demonstrate appropriate PPE and cleanroom entry procedures.

Practice preparing the horizontal laminar airflow hood before cleaning, including allowing airflow to run for the required period and gathering sterile gauze, wipes, sterile water, 70% IPA, and cleaning documentation. Learners practice disinfecting supply containers before introducing them into the hood.
Cleaning and Disinfection Procedures +
Engage in immersive VR scenarios to clean hood surfaces with sterile water using controlled back-to-front strokes, followed by disinfection with sterile 70% IPA. Learners practice using a fresh sterile wipe for each section and avoiding contact with previously cleaned surfaces.
Documentation and Procedure Completion +
Learn to document cleaning and disinfection activities using required initials, date, and time. Learners verify that all surfaces are adequately cleaned, allow the hood to air dry completely, and safely complete the procedure.
