About the Course:

This Vernier Caliper Measurement microcredential introduces manufacturing associates to the proper use of a digital Vernier caliper for performing accurate dimensional measurements on common manufacturing components. Learners will navigate an immersive virtual environment to measure the external dimensions, internal diameters, and widths of various workpieces while becoming familiar with digital caliper functions such as powering the device, zeroing the measurement, switching between inches and millimeters, and obtaining precise readings.

Through interactive VR-based learning, participants will develop confidence in handling precision measuring instruments, selecting the correct measuring technique for different component features, and interpreting measurement results accurately. By emphasizing measurement accuracy, proper tool handling, and quality inspection practices, this microcredential prepares learners to perform dimensional inspections that support manufacturing quality standards and production efficiency.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the main components and functions of a digital Vernier caliper
  • Demonstrate proper handling and setup of the Vernier caliper before measurement
  • Measure external dimensions using the outside measuring jaws
  • Measure internal diameters using the inside measuring jaws
  • Reset (zero) the Vernier caliper before taking measurements
  • Perform accurate dimensional measurements on different manufacturing components
  • Apply precision measurement techniques to support quality inspection and manufacturing standards

Learners can also build broader instrument-handling skills through our precision measurement tools training.

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

Workforce Development

Technician using the inside jaws of a digital caliper to measure an internal diameter

At ImmerseLearn, we prepare manufacturing associates with workplace-ready precision measurement skills through immersive VR learning experiences. This microcredential strengthens dimensional measurement accuracy, inspection techniques, instrument handling, quality awareness, and confidence in using precision measuring tools while supporting manufacturing quality standards and inspection best practices.

How this course strengthens workforce skills:

Digital Vernier Caliper Operation
Learn to safely operate a digital Vernier caliper by powering the instrument, resetting the display to zero, switching between inches and millimeters, and understanding the function of the outside and inside measuring jaws. Develop confidence in preparing the tool for accurate measurements.
External and Internal Measurements +
Practice measuring the outside dimensions and internal diameters of common manufacturing components including pipes, gears, and metal blocks. Learners gain hands-on experience selecting the correct measuring surfaces and positioning the caliper properly to obtain precise readings.
Precision Measurement Techniques +
Develop the ability to position the caliper correctly, apply consistent measuring pressure, and interpret digital measurement values accurately. Learn best practices that minimize measurement errors and improve dimensional inspection accuracy.
Quality Inspection and Manufacturing Readiness +
Understand the importance of precision measurement in manufacturing quality control. Learners complete the course with the knowledge and practical skills needed to verify component dimensions, support inspection processes, and contribute to consistent product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

By completing this microcredential, manufacturing associates will develop the practical skills and confidence needed to operate a digital Vernier caliper, perform accurate dimensional measurements, inspect manufactured components, and support quality assurance processes in modern manufacturing environments.
