Air-Cooled Chiller Maintenance
About the Course:
This Air-Cooled Chiller Maintenance microcredential trains HVAC technicians to safely inspect, clean, maintain, and verify the operation of air-cooled chiller systems. Learners will practice essential maintenance procedures, including electrical shutdown and lockout, component inspection, condenser coil cleaning, fan inspection, compressor checks, sensor inspection, and system restart.
Through immersive VR simulations, learners gain hands-on experience identifying signs of damage, leaks, dirt buildup, loose connections, and abnormal component conditions. The course emphasizes electrical safety, proper lockout/tagout procedures, equipment inspection, preventive maintenance, and safe system restoration.
Learning Objectives:
- Perform safe chiller shutdown, electrical isolation, and lockout procedures.
- Inspect the chiller for damage, leaks, loose components, and abnormal conditions.
- Inspect and clean condenser coils using appropriate tools and methods.
- Check condenser fan blades and assemblies for damage, dirt, or obstructions.
- Inspect the expansion valve and verify proper operation.
- Inspect compressor wiring, electrical connections, physical condition, and vibration.
- Inspect temperature sensors and verify secure connections.
- Clean and inspect temperature and pressure meters.
- Safely restore electrical power and restart the chiller after maintenance.
- Follow appropriate PPE, electrical safety, and workplace maintenance procedures.
