Bedpan Assistance & Patient Care
About the Course:
This Bedpan Assistance & Patient Care microcredential trains Nursing Assistants to safely and respectfully assist patients with toileting needs when they are unable to use a regular toilet. Learners will practice proper patient positioning, bedpan placement and removal, hygiene care, infection prevention, and safe disposal procedures.
Through immersive VR simulations, learners gain hands-on experience preparing the patient and environment, adjusting bed height, using appropriate PPE, maintaining privacy and dignity, positioning the patient safely, placing and removing the bedpan, providing perineal care, and completing the procedure while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
The course emphasizes effective patient communication, safe body mechanics, infection control, proper waste disposal, and professional patient-centered care throughout the procedure.

- Explain the purpose of using a bedpan and the importance of patient dignity and privacy.
- Prepare the patient, environment, equipment, and PPE before providing assistance.
