About the Course:

The Emergency Response & Medication Readiness microcredential equips pharmacy technician students with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to support safe, timely, and effective medication management during healthcare emergencies. 

Learners will practice identifying emergency medications and supplies, preparing medications for urgent use, supporting emergency medication distribution, maintaining accurate inventory, and following established procedures during critical situations. The course emphasizes medication safety, communication, organization, accuracy, and the pharmacy technician’s role within the emergency response team. 

Through immersive VR simulations, students will engage in realistic emergency response scenarios involving cardiac emergencies, respiratory distress, allergic reactions, opioid overdose, diabetic emergencies, and other urgent conditions. The training reinforces rapid decision-making, medication identification, accurate preparation, infection control, documentation, and effective communication while working within the pharmacy technician’s scope of practice. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the pharmacy technician’s role in supporting emergency response and medication readiness.  
  • Identify common emergency medications, supplies, and equipment used in critical care situations. 
  • Demonstrate proper procedures for locating, preparing, and supplying emergency medications. 
  • Verify medication labels, concentrations, expiration dates, and storage requirements. 
  • Recognize emergency medication requests and prioritize tasks appropriately. 
  • Support medication preparation and distribution according to established procedures.
