Icons representing a four-step workflow: Learn, Assess, Evaluate, and Implement

About the Course:

This EV Heat Pump System Fundamentals microcredential trains EV technicians to understand, inspect, and work with heat pump systems used for efficient cabin heating, cooling, and battery thermal management in electric vehicles.

Learners will explore key heat pump components, including the compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion valve, refrigerant circuits, and associated sensors and controls. Through immersive training, they will practice identifying components, understanding refrigerant flow, monitoring system operation, and performing basic inspection procedures.

The course emphasizes safe handling, thermal management, system efficiency, and identifying common heat pump issues that may affect cabin comfort, battery performance, and overall EV operation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify major components of an EV heat pump system
  • Understand the basic operation and refrigerant flow within a heat pump system
  • Explain the role of heat pumps in cabin climate control and battery thermal management
  • Identify heating and cooling operating modes
  • Inspect heat pump components, connections, and related systems
  • Monitor system temperature, pressure, and operating conditions
  • Recognize common heat pump faults and abnormal operating conditions
  • Apply appropriate safety procedures when working with EV thermal management systems

Course delivered through our LMS and accessible in both VR and web. Learn on the web anytime, or enjoy immersive VR training with your own Oculus VR headset.

At ImmerseLearn, we equip EV technicians with practical skills required to understand and support efficient vehicle thermal management. This microcredential strengthens heat pump component identification, system operation, inspection, safety, and basic troubleshooting through immersive VR-based learning.

Heat Pump System Fundamentals
Learn how an EV heat pump transfers and manages thermal energy to support cabin heating, cooling, and battery temperature regulation. Technicians explore major components, refrigerant circuits, sensors, controls, and system operating modes.
Heat Pump Operation and Thermal Management +
Understand how the heat pump operates during different heating and cooling conditions. Learners explore how thermal energy is transferred between the vehicle cabin, battery, and surrounding environment to improve energy efficiency and vehicle performance.
System Inspection and Safety +
Practice inspecting heat pump components, refrigerant lines, electrical connections, sensors, and related equipment for damage, leaks, or abnormal conditions. Learners apply appropriate PPE and follow EV and refrigerant safety procedures during inspection activities.
Heat Pump Troubleshooting and Performance Verification +
Develop skills to recognize common heat pump issues, including abnormal temperatures, insufficient heating or cooling, refrigerant-related problems, and system faults. Learners practice monitoring operating conditions and verifying proper system performance.

By completing this microcredential, EV technicians will develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to understand, inspect, operate, and support EV heat pump systems, contributing to efficient thermal management, reliable vehicle performance, and safe EV service operations.
