About the Course:

Figure-Eight Bandaging Technique is an essential clinical skill for Certified Medical Assistants working in physician offices, urgent care centers, ambulatory care facilities, and other healthcare settings. This microcredential introduces learners to figure-eight bandaging techniques used to support and immobilize joints following an injury. Training focuses on patient preparation, proper bandage application, appropriate tension, circulation assessment, and accurate documentation to promote patient comfort and safety. 

Through interactive web-based learning modules, learners develop practical skills in preparing supplies, performing hand hygiene, applying gloves, identifying and communicating with the patient, positioning the injured extremity, and applying a figure-eight bandage using a standardized workflow. Learners practice creating the figure-eight pattern around the wrist, maintaining even tension, overlapping layers, and securing the bandage without restricting movement or circulation. 

The course emphasizes patient identification, communication, proper positioning, infection prevention, bandage application, circulation monitoring, and post-procedure care. Learners also develop competency in recognizing signs of impaired circulation, assessing patient comfort, providing post-application instructions, and accurately documenting the procedure, including checks for tingling, numbness, discoloration, and finger movement.

Learners practice maintaining even tension, ensuring the bandage is snug without being too tight, and overlapping each layer by approximately half the width of the bandage for even coverage.
Securing the Bandage and Patient Safety +
Understand how to properly secure the completed figure-eight bandage using the provided clips while ensuring that the bandage does not restrict blood flow or movement.
