About the Course:

Spiral Bandage Application is an essential clinical skill for Certified Medical Assistants working in physician offices, urgent care centers, ambulatory care facilities, and other healthcare settings. This microcredential introduces learners to the proper application of spiral bandages to secure dressings, provide support, and apply even pressure to limbs. Training focuses on patient preparation, proper bandage placement, consistent tension, circulation assessment, and accurate documentation to promote patient comfort and safety. 

Through interactive web-based learning modules, learners develop practical skills in preparing bandaging supplies, performing hand hygiene, applying gloves, identifying and communicating with the patient, positioning the limb, and applying a spiral bandage using a standardized workflow. Learners practice beginning the bandage at the narrowest part of the limb, securing the initial wrap, creating smooth spiral turns, and overlapping each layer by approximately two-thirds of the previous layer. 

The course emphasizes patient identification, communication, infection prevention, proper positioning, bandage application, appropriate tension, circulation monitoring, secure placement, and post-procedure documentation. Learners also develop competency in recognizing signs of impaired circulation and documenting the procedure, including the date, time, application site, patient condition, and relevant observations.

Learners practice holding the end of the bandage against the limb, completing an initial circular wrap to secure it, and continuing upward in a spiral motion. The training reinforces smooth and even wrapping, approximately two-thirds overlap between layers, and consistent gentle pressure throughout the application.
